Had a Bowen Therapist visit the yard the other day about using the yard for clinics. Got chatting to him about Monty and am now considering getting him to look at Monty. Monty has stiffness/tightness through the right side of his neck

Anyone had a Bowen Therapist out to their horse?
If so, for what and did it help?
 
I know a bowen therapist and have seen her "at work". She demonstrated on one of her own horses.
She rescued a mare that was starved and had alot of muscle wastage. This mare used to suffer through her back and rump. This lady went to work - you can see every muscle twitching in this horses back end. Afterwards the mare looked totally relieved.
 
i have it regually for my boy - i can recomend it. Our whole yard uses the lady. From the top showjumpers to the happy hackers x
 
Another fan of Bowen treatments here. Our horses lap up their treatments. She completely transformed an arthritic gelding on our yard, he was so much freer afterwards.
 
Its actually far better described as equine muscle release therapy, an it does just that - releases muscles that are in spasm. it is a non invasive treatment that can have incredible results. However there are lots of practitioners out there who are not very good, so you need to be sure you have a good practitioner. I personally use an EMRT therapist Julian Gaze and I have found the results to be outstanding. I have tried a Bowen practitioner and was not impressed with his results. So go with recommendations and results.
 
I haven't had experience with a horse but I have Bowen from a licensed practitioner. She is fantastic and is also attached to a local vet's clinic where she has loads of clients. Particularly good for animals after trauma. I can thoroughly recommend it for humans!

who do you have - you are in the same area as me - so maybe its the same lady i have? x
 
I use a Bowen therapist for myself infact, I've got an appointment on Friday and I swear by him!!

I've also used one for my mare. He was very good, he didn't find a problem with her which I was pleased about because I didn't think she had a problem. He also insisted on giving me a short treatment at same time. Said it was important we were both OK - makes sense!

I've also had a McTimoney Therapist out to my girl and she as a Reiki treatment approximately every 2 months from me

My friend was training in this and used a retired racehorse I had on loan as one of her training projects. He was i his late teens and when I took him on he had been turned out over winter in a heavy rug and just left like that. When I got to him his wither was worn through the flesh, he was all ribs but everybody was afraid to feed him because they believed he would become unmanageable on a decent diet.

So, several things to tackle, several ways to deal with his problems, but Bowen was one of them. We took measurements over his wither at the very start, took his heart rate, measured how much he was eating and drinking and then he had 4 sessions.

Over the course of the month his water consumption doubled (apparently a 'detoxing' effect), he made better use of his feed and had more of it, gained weight progressively - without getting too lively, and was very chilled and relaxed to the extent that he could start work on the lunge. His heart rate slowed down so much during each session you would barely believe he was still conscious.

She did a session on me too, as I wanted to know what it felt like and what changes it made - I have to report that I fell asleep very early on but woke up feeling very relaxed!
 
I too use a Bowen therapist both on my horses and for myself and can totally recommend it. It is gentle and non invasive.

Not sure where you are but I can highly recommend my lady if you need one.
 
i'm trying it on me on thur and then my pony on monday. he is tight through his left side but got quite nervous with the physio so thought i'd try this instead. i get a lot of tightness in my neck/shoulders so hoping it'll help me too.
 
I recomend it totally at first i was sceptical, but i have it for my 4yr old, had it whilst i was backing him as a 3yr old its amazing to see the changes as they happen my dad thought it was a waste of money then one day he turned up and saw my gelding during treatment and instantly went wow it really does work, he just goes so relaxed drops his head and seems to go to a happy place nothing around him matters, he managed to get himself wrapped up in the electric fencing on bonfire nite to the point he cudnt move so he laid down but he must have been fighting it and he was so tender in his neck just behind the ears and right shoulder, he wouldnt let me touch his head at all and was really stiff so called the lady out and he wasnt happy about it at first but settled after 30mins into it and the next day he was ace, could touch his head and havent had a problem with him being tense since, im going to try it for my mare whos done her suspensory and is on box rest see if can just relax her n help.
 
My mare has a treatment every 4-6 months to check everything is A1. Bowen is great - my lady told me there was something not right with my saddle - when a saddler had 'fitted' it, and put right the muscle damage it had caused. Now just have her out every 4-6months or more often when competiting hard to keep my mare tip top.
