I am thinking of having Bowen therapy done on my horse. He was ill seven weeks ago with two bouts of colic, a bad reaction to sedation and then we think gastric ulcers. I say 'we think' because all his signs pointed to gastric ulcers and so the vet put him on GastroGuard. We couldn't confirm the ulcers at that time by doing a gastroscope because it was too risky to sedate or starve him from what he had been throiugh. When we did Gastroscope him 3 1/2 weeks later there were no signs of ulcers, however the vet thinks it could have been that he had very low grade ones and the Gastroguard cleared them. Anyway, I am still a little worried about my boy, as he seems down in the dumps and a bit tense since all of this. All his vital signs are good, he is eating, drinking, passing etc, but I have a feeling he is not 100% in himself. I have also noticed that since this he has started to grind his teeth. I have just started walking him for 15-20mins a day this week to slowly bring him into work - i feel he is tense when i tack him up and ride. Anyway, I had a look at Bowen therapy and wondered if anyone else had tried this or has any thoughts. many thanks

i had it done on me and my horse couple of weeks ago. i'm quite sceptical about these things, but I think my shoulders are a bit better since having it. they normally start to ache when carrying bags and i walked round olympia last night with no probs. i've been abusing them by hunting a hard-pulling horse as well.

horse seems fine - maybe is a little softer into the left rein which was his main issue - difficult to tell if any major differences.

I can recommend Bowen. I had it done on myself and it was the differnce between me needing an operation on the discs in my back.

Touch wood I have had no issues since starting Bowen - I have it about every 6 weeks.

Also had good success with my horse too

Thanks I have just looked up Iridology - looks interesting, I might look some more into this. So far, I must say I have heard very good things about Bowen therapy which makes me feel positive.

I've found Bowen was very good on my pony who suffered back problems due to ill-fitting saddles, though it appears to heal the body as a whole so might be beneficial for your horse.

Whereabouts are you? I can recommend Julian Gaze from Worcestershire though I believe he does travel all over the country.

I'm with Chumsmum. I use Julian Gaze as well. He is fantastic and I have had some amazing results from it with my horses. I have also been treated and it makes the difference between me walking or not.
