I didn't think it would work - maybe voodoo or something. But my horse had Bowen tonight and really reacted to it, he has a really sore back. Anyone had any experiences, good or bad?
Not relating to horses, but my mums expereince of it means thay I am a BIG fan. For 13 months she had almost constant excrutiating sciatic pain. She saw neuro surgeons ,had steroid injections, had physio, hydrotherapy and took a daily cocktail of pills consisting of 8 x paracetamol. 6 x strongest Ibruprohen, 6 x Gaberpentin and had 'morphine'
patches. It got so bad she couldn't get out of bed, walked (shuffled) with 2 sticks and was frankly in despair.
I actually posted on here I was so desperate for ideas!
I can hardly believe it but she had 4 treatments of Bowen and is off all the pills and is completely pain free (crosses fingers!!!). So yep, I'm a fan
My big lad has Bowen every 6 to 8 weeks. I was sceptical initially (I am a trauma specialist and view these things as voodoo usually) however the lady identified all his problems including some I had not informed her about but was aware of.
He has responded well and gone from being unable to be shod on his rears to competing at Intro Dressage (whoopee I hear you say but hey its good for us!! lol)
Our local racehorse trainer also uses her for his string.
Its like anything really, it depends on your practitioner and what your expectations are. It works for my lad it may not work for others
i am currently trainning to be a massage therapist (human then onto equine sports) and i have just written a 63 page project on complimentary therapies!! i think they are all very different and if you have a scentific mind it can be hard to comprehend they way they work but if you like the sound of it then go in with an open mind, generally they cannot do any harm and although most do have contraindications they are non invasive, and remember that it may work wonders for some and make no difference to others !!
giving it a go will do no harm other than to your wallet!!
I have Bowen therapy every 3months on my horse - he definately reacts to it. I've had some good results in that he went through a stage of throwing his head after about 15mins of work, after that bowen treatment it stopped immediately so he must have been tight somewhere and that released it. I have no real idea how it works but during the treatment he becomes very very relaxed, I see his veins enlarge and his coat becomes visably shiny and more dappled. I use it as a routine therapy just to keep his muscles released.
use it on myself and horse, had a mare who was really short striding we just thought this was how she was, had bowen and the nx day there was a huge difference, her strides were much longer and looser, helped her loads, and done wonders on my back! just dont ride him to soon after as it carrie's on working through the muscles for a week i think? so u could turn it all backwards but im sure who saw him would have told you this! good luck with it!
