Bowing pony? Or forced by leg being tied up?

How bizarre!
I'd be put off by the grammar, spelling and quality of photo, never mind the 'trick'. TBH the advertiser doesn't really seem to know what he is advertising the pony as, anyway!

Poor poor pony!! I'll tie the guy up and see how he likes it!
Why would you want to do that? Natural horsemanship obviously doesn't apply to the man in the photo.

OMG! That's awful :( Murphy bows, it took me several months to teach him - with treats - because they have to build the muscle to maitain the posture. Thats horrendous. Poor po,hope it finds someone decent.

Can't say the quality of the photo is particularly important when a pony is being forced to the ground!!

That's how you teach em to do it...
But if you're doing it properly they don't need to be tied into it. If you watch Stacey Westfall's horse he bows at the end of their tackless performance but goes off her signal and gets lots of fuss from her.

one way lol

one can use a rope gently of course but it should never be used to pull the leg up or tied up.

I prefer to teach the horse to hold its own leg up.

I also think that bow is far too low and will put a lot of strain on the pone..... that pone looks like he is being held down rather than holding the position himself .... def dont like it

I teach my horses to bow and lie down, you can either hold the horses foot or use a rope to hold the leg and guide it while the horse sorts the rest of its own weight out (depends on the state of my back!), I would use it on the same side I'm on and would make sure that the leg goes down either flat on the cannon, or toe first, otherwise it digs the knee in.

This chap may have found he can get his horse to bow, but I bet it will start refusing if the leg is hitting the ground knee first, the rope is only until a guide until the horse knows what he's doing and sorts it own legs out

Thats horrific. Surely that picture is abuse? Poor thing is ribby and has been forced to lie down. Would WHW or someone go and have a word with them do you think?

Hi I agree this is not good at all but it may be worth contacting preloved and asking for the pic to be removed they are quite good.

My pony bows, but this isn't how I would do it, as Stacey says it looks a bit too extreme.

OP: There are many, many different methods to get the same result, just Google 'how to teach a pony to bow' this is just one link that I picked out of dozens : http://www.equineclickertraining.com/training/bow.html

Anyway, forget the bowing, the pony is For Sale, what is the point of a knee jerk reaction and having the picture taken off or the advert deleted? That would kind of defeat the object of the exercise wouldn't it?

Ah Stacey Westfall, now she's a horsewoman!!! Brilliant rider!

I felt bad enough about the picture to contact preloved simply saying it appears to show the pony tied up, which is cruel, their response was it was out of their control this statement at the end of a very long email telling me how caring they are. I was surprised it is out of their control but I guess they can't control what pics people put in their ads.
