Could it be a good time to go barefoot while on box rest?

My mare had hinds taken off 2 weeks ago, just has fronts on. She is on total box rest for 4 weeks, then more box rest followed by a lot of walking and not being turned out until cantering.

She always did well barefoot

I never regretted Bailey going barefoot.

In fact I'd forgotten the farrier was taking her shoes off that day, got to the yard after work, dragged her out of the stable to tie up outside to muck out and was amazed when there was the absent clip clop on the concrete. It was like the preceding 23 years of having shoes had never happened.

She never looked back!

I'd say grab the opportunity!
Big fan of barefoot and if my tb can go from crippled on 2 bute a day after taking his off to doing a full day's hunting without boots then there's hope for most!

Just a small thought to bear in mind, I'm not sure why she's on box rest, but it may make it trickier to identify the cause of any lameness if shes sore when you start reintroducing movement.
But if she's always done well barefoot that's a bonus and if she is a bit footy then you could always rule it out by popping a pair of boots on in front.
So on balance, whip them off!

That is fab about your TB..

On box rest for a hole in her front right suspensory and PSD :( She was barefoot for the first year of her ridden life before I shod, she was walking well barefoot after her MRI scan for 2 weeks. Just need to work out how to get the farrier back to pull off the shoes he put on her 2 weeks ago.
