well my mare is going to be on box rest for six weeks after 2 weeks i can start in hand walking i will be using acp's for that but she really dont cope well with box rest and she really need to not be box walking as much as she is to be honest!

so anyone had any success with calmers just to take the edge off with only be using it for whilst she is on box rest and maybe just after as she is normally fine!

any suggestions would be great thanks

my friends horse is on box rest for 3 wks and she has got some tablets from the vets and that seems to be doing the job, as she usually box walks. Can't you speak to your vet about the problem.

The best thing that I have found on the market is called 'relax me' by horse first, I got it online from saddlery.biz it is the first and only calmer that has worked. I will be using this for my TB who is going in for an operation on both his stifles on Thurs and if needed I will add a bit of valerian cordial. The relax me has worked wonders for my near on 18hh Trakehner 5 year old gelding!!
I have also been recommended the global herbs box rest and super calm but I like the relax me as it also settles the stomach

My 3yo is on box rest and he was stressing and box walking, mushing his bed up and dropping weight. I bought him an acrylic stable mirror (cheaply from E-bay) and put him on NAF calmers and he is nice and quiet in his box now. He is so quiet that I only have to take out 2 barrow loads from his stable in 24h.

My 5yr old mare is on box rest, shes never been stabled before and has now been confined to box for 2 weeks so far due to torn suspensory ligament in hind leg, it was aweful at first i could have cried she reacted very badly to it but to be honest we had caged her up after shes always been free, we have to have 24hr company so we rotate the horses round to stop with her, mainly has my 4yr old in day and one of our liveries old horses at nite so my 4yr old can be out and stretch his legs thankfully he likes his stable as it means he doesnt have to do much to get to hay or food (big hairy coloured cob stomach first)they both have a real calming affect on her but company alone did not stop her trashing the stable constantly, we started on 5acp a day but have now been able to get that down to 3acp by feeding magic naf calmer to her as well, she now chils out during the day, eats, plays with a treat ball we have given her and doesnt trash the stable half as much in fact we can tie up in there and comin in and out with barrow for mucking out and she isnt trying to break free also stopped crushing everyone at the door and stands for bandadges on and off since shes had the calmer it has really had an effect only time she stresses now is when we have company change over on the morning turnover she rears twice whilst one walks out and the other in then shes fine and shes stoped the evening change over rears, i think having her in a rountine also helps and liveries on the yard pop in and check on her and the company during the day whilst im at work and they help out where needed, hope it gets better for you,
