Having specatularly fractured his elbow on sunday and had a huge amount of metalwork inserted to fix him, Bruce (aka bionic dog) now has 7 weeks 'box rest' before being reassessed. The specialist wants him restricted but not crated ( play pen on order) and he is allowed 10 mins lead exercise 4-5 times a day. He also has to not gain weight so as to not put additional pressure on the joint...... not easy for a manic spaniel who is already on tiny diet rations to keep his weight stable!

So... has anyone got any suggestions on how to keep him occupied / quiet? He's been home 3 days and is already driving me potty - he's doing really well but just doesn't understand why he can't do all the things he loves doing. I suspect I will be asking the vet for something to keep him quiet... when I spoke to him last he suggested diazepam... One for Bruce, one for me I think!!

Any suggestions gratefully received

ps - thanks to those who responded to my previous post...aloe vera did the trick!

Rescue Remedy night! Knocked the stuffing out of my manic collie-dog and it's all herbal ;) Plus things to keep his brain occupied helps too :)

Try the Nina ottesson games. They are not cheap but really help to exercise the brain. Helped my dog after her GDV surgery when she was restricted

Our schnauzer was spayed on tues and is going nuts without a proper walk so I resorted to ACP (diazepam) today. She has been out cold all afternoon so will try a half tablet tomorrow! Don't know how we could cope with 7 weeks, hopefully people will have some good ideas for you.
