box rest horse -- nuts for trickle feeder

What can I put in a trickle feeder for my horse on box rest that won't have him doing headstands in the stable?

He is on Top Spec Light balancer, unmolassed sugar beet, and Hi Fi light at the moment, plus hay.

I want to put a quantity of nuts into his feeder that are a hay replacer, I suppose. I bought some D & H Treats but they are too large to go through the holes of the feeder.

I use Top Spec Fibre Plus cubes, they are very low calorie but also very high in fibre. I also put some Hifi Lite/Safe & Sound in there too as it makes it a little more difficult to get them out so lasts longer.

i use high fibre pony nuts. i use the ones made by the local feed place as they are much bigger than normal ones so don't fall out so easily. i adjust hard feed accordingly. x

Thanks. I couldn't get the Top Spec Fibre Plus nuts, but I suppose they are the obvious choice.

I tend to use High Fibre cubes...for the jolly balls etc..

Good quality and not too expensive.

I just use spillers high fibre cubes but I occasionally cut up some carrot and add that in too...

my 2 get grass nuts in theirs if they are kept in for any reason.

qr- Check the starch level of any cube you consider, some nuts are surprisingly high. Badminton fibre complete nuggets are very low, about 6% so much lower than pony nuts.

Agree with teddyt, I've been using the fibre nuggets in my horses treat ball whilst he's been on box rest.

Another vote for Badminton High Fibre nuggets. The chunky size means they are less likely to get lost in the bedding as well.
