My gelding needs to go on box rest for the next few months due to an injury. We were currently on full livery but now need him to be on full livery but with full box rest and only being walked out a couple of times a day.

What would you say was a reasonable cost for this? I am in the hants/berks area.
Thx

What do you class as full ivery?

Personally I wouldn't expect to pay extra if you are already on full livery, except for perhaps a bit extra bedding/hay. However if you are expecting the livery owners to walk the horse in-hand for you then I would expect to pay extra, poss £5 per day or so ...

Hi

I have a space at my yard where he could go if you are looking. We have a big foaling box that is empty so ideal for box rest. PM me if you are interested.

I second Ben & Jerry's opinion. Walking out can get a bit hairy though with some horses the longer they have been on box rest, so the YO might have some issues with it which could be resolved with danger money!

One horse of mine who was on box rest for some time eventually had to be moved to a yard with a horse walker as he got too dangerous to lead out. I had the full service including 100% care, use of the horse walker, and when he was ready for it they brought him back into work, and it was £500 a month.

My horse required a few weeks box rest at the end of the summer after a kick that penetrated his tendon sheath. My livery bill certainly didnt change much except (as someone mentioned), I think he used more bedding which was to be expected.

The head boy walked him out in hand twice a day for me as he was starting to get a bit of a handful and there was no extra charge for this either (to be fair - even with walking they probably spent less time on him than they would if they'd been turning out / fetching in / changing rugs etc)

I'm only on part livery and still didnt have to pay any extra when rocks was on box rest

I think thats really reasonable, Im up North too and arent far behind that price wise DIY with the extra bedding needed for my box resting horse. Also the walking out included takes a lot of stress off the owner.
