Little Flair is coming back from horsepital hopefully some time this week, still not too sure when they'll be happy to let her out :(

She needs to be on box rest for 4 weeks, so before I go back up to uni I was hoping to come up with some ides to help her pass the time?

She has a lovely big box, and it is right on the yard so she will be able to see everything (feed times, the goats/pigs/people wandering around etc), and speak to any visitors that come to the centre but our horses are never usually stabled (in winter they go into large barns in groups) so we're not too sure how she'll get on.

So any ideas welcome, preferably cheap DIY ones :D

my mare on box rest but can Have no treats.

can you put her on some sedaline??
mines on that
you cold put apples in water bucket hide treats round the stable
have radio left on
snack a ball
horse likits
put treats in her haynet to find like apples carrots
make a mobile with vege s to play with and eat
get some stable mirrors
two haynets together so she take longer too eat.

Unless she's a fatty and on a diet (like mine ) then hanging swedes and snack balls are good entertainment. My girl liked the radio :)

Also, please do be terribly careful when it comes to leading her out again, as even the sweetest of horses can explode after boxrest - I have the scars to prove it!

My horse is currently on week 3 of box rest, I usually leave the radio on for him all day and give him a snack ball with small bits of apple and carrot in whilst the others are being turned out to distract him. I've also put him on Relax Me calmer which seems to be working. The vet did give me some sedalin but I haven't had to use it even for walking out in hand.

I try and take him out of the box whenever I am around even if it's just tied up with a haynet for a small change of scenery.

Box rest sounds a nightmare I know but after the first few days they become resigned to it and 4 weeks will pass really quickly.

as above, they do become resigned to it. radio on (classic fm tends to sooth horses!), friends nearby if pos, spend lots of time with her if you can - a good gentle groom every day, a nice massage (just let your hands do what they instinctively want to, it's easy), handpicked grass, even sitting in the stable reading a book for an hour and having your hair whuffled. ;) ;)
please please be VERY careful the first few times you lead her out after the box rest though, i have seen the sweetest easiest horses turn into dangerous demons, they're like a bottle of pop that has been shaken daily then someone finally undoes the top... ideally sedate, and/or have hat, gloves, bp, lunge line on etc, and have her really hungry so all she wants to do is eat grass when you let her out! good luck!
