Has anyone got any good ideas for box walkers

At our yard the horses (not my choice) are all fed at the same time so every morning there are several minutes where the horses go crazy waiting for their feed. My horse has developed a habit of circuling round in his stable whilst waiting for his feed and then does the same when some start to be turned out before him. I dont really want to get into giving him more hay and a treat ball etc and this wont stop the initial box walking when the first person arrives. Also he churns up his bed in the process making it really time consuming to muck out

Any ideas?

No help I'm afraid, just wanted to say you have my sympathy! There really isn't a lot you can do about the problem. I have one box walker on my yard and his stable is a nightmare to do. The whole lot (every scrap) has to come out and is replaced daily otherwise he is standing in muck and urine. There is nothing that can be done to save any of his bed. I have never come across a horse as bad as him in all my years keeping horses.

My only tips would be to skip your horse out regularly (I do this horse every time I notice a dropping if I'm in the yard) and also skip out whilst he has his feed as the worst time for him is after the feed and waiting for turn out. On the days I manage to do this, the mucking out is much better, but practically, when you have another seven horses to do it is not always possible!

Could you not ask that your horse gets fed first and turned out first? Mine was exactly the same on yard with a similar set up, we've now moved to complete diy and we don't have the problem anymore and it's helped as I'm usually the first one down in the mornings x

I was speaking to someone and they were saying that when their horse did it they put a couple of tyres in the stable along the line of the bed to stop their horse leaving the door and doing a circle across the bed so breaking that circle
I'm not sure if this would be the best idea any thoughts???

I think it's a good idea and I would do it if it were my horse. I don't think my livery would agree to it though.
