I have a year old boxer bitch that keeps eating my other boxers poo! Help! How do I stop her doing this? She was on James wellbeloved puppy and junior food until two months ago when I changed her to chudleys junior food as I thought maybe she was lacking something in the james wellbeloved but it's made no difference. Can anyone suggest anything?

My Labrador has also recently developed this disgusting habit. I clear up the poo from my garden as soon as it happens. I keep her on a lead when I start any walk, as most dogs relieve themselves within 5 minutes of starting their walk. I throw a ball to keep her occupied so she doesn't go looking for any delicacies, and the final thing I do occasionally, is to muzzle her. This means she is free to sniff and wander but not eat unsavoury things... this combination is working well, and I'm hoping that eventually, the habit will be broken. She is raw fed, and as far as I can tell, her diet isn't lacking in anything. I've tried Keepers Mix, as it was recommended as a solution to this disgusting habit, but it had no effect...

It's called copraphagia, which gives you something to look up on t'internet :) One remedy was to sprinkle chilli powder on it (so long as you get there first) but some dogs even develop a taste for chilli. Try feeding the other dogs pineapple - that apparently makes their poo taste 'orrible in dog terms, I have heard from people that this works well

Our oldest Spinonie used to eat out other dogs poo when we first got her, out vet, also a friend told us to distract her when she went for it. She finally stopped when we changed our dogs over to raw food.

My friend has four dogs, all fed the same and brought up the same (she bred them)
Two eat other dogs poo, two don't. Nothing she has tried has stopped them, and believe me she has tried every solution she has heard of as it makes her almost sick when they do it.
She has concluded some dogs are just disgusting.

See post about horse poo. Some dogs are just mingers!!

I quite agree. My younger lab eats anything and everything that may or not be edible. My EDT came to do my horses today. One of them has a diastema and frankly the stuff that comes out of his mouth is absolutely foul, but lab number 2 thought it was quite delicious.:o:(

ETA she also eats any poo she finds - dog, cat, horse, rabbit, deer, pheasant. She is fed and she is wormed but clearly thinks she needs more. We do not do kisses. ;)

Try feeding her some pineapple chunks. For some reason it stops them eating it when it comes out the other end! My mums dog did the same as a pup and it worked. To stop her eating other dog's c**p, she had to keep her on an extending lead. She did grow out of it eventually but was careful not to let her lick her face till she did!!!

Fury, I don't think it's the poo per se (Mine tried to eat a Bakers-inspired offering the other day, I thought of this thread straight away!!)

It's the fact that if a dog thinks it is OK to go around hoovering up whatever it feels like, it is likely to end up in the vet's.

1 of my staffies does it if in young dog can sometimes be stopped, but in older dog like mine the habit can be hard to stop

Can some times be lack of vits and mins or just a grotty habit like my staffie

My shih tzu stands under my GSD when he crouches waiting for him to poo so she can hoover it up. (where is the being sick smilie icon)
