Tried local post office for boxes big enough for a saddle. No joy.
Any ideas where I could get one? X

Ask a worker at a supermarket if they have any broken down crisps boxes, Walkers make perfect size.
Obviously I have added lots of padding. I wouldn't have sent it just in the box! They're only single walled, you might have got away with using one but absolutely not recommended unless you layer maybe 3 of them inside each other.

100% agree with this. My DH uses actual saddle boxes to send out his - but he tends to 'double line' them as a precaution with any sturdy cardboard. And of course, there is packing inside the box too, such as foam offcuts. The padding doesn't make up for the lack of rigidity in the box, honestly, I've been sending/receiving saddles by courier almost weekly for 14 years and would never use a single walled box and never rely on padding. One customer returned a saddle to me with JUST padding (lots of it, very thick) but no box, and thank goodness the tree was okay, but an easily-crushed single walled box would be no more protective.
A bit expensive but I use the largest boxes from B&Q. I buy two, wrap the saddle in bubble wrap, line the first box with bubble wrap, add the saddle and add more bubble wrap in the gaps & then put the second box over the top of the one with the saddle in. Reinforce the ends, add lots of tape & it’s incredibly secure!
I’ve sent a few saddles this way and they’ve always arrived in very good condition. It’s a bit of an expensive way to do it though but worth it for peace of mind.
