Boxing day madness

Google? I am impressed Broadford Queen that your horse is so quiet you can get your ipad or tablet out to see what you should know when you embark within the hunting field

She is actually! :D
Excuse me dangling my hunting whip behind her, I didn't want her to kick a hound ;)

As someone else has said MFH is also a forum member so that's what the confusion is about.
BroadfordQueen does know about hunting and I can vouch for that!

I'm not even going to comment on the hunting report because I am rather shocked.

My face actually went  whilst reading what happened on the day.

Sorry OP, but members of the field like you are why i don't bother with Boxing Day or New Year's Day any more.

Shocking.

And it was the landowner at fault for leaving the fence on!? How DARE he try to keep his stock in!

Staggering.

Very well said. That report has rendered me speechless..... I have no words.

I don't hunt, I come from a country that barely has hunting and even I'm pretty horrified.

Out of genuine curiosity, OP, why did you ask the question about taking the young horse out on Boxing Day to begin with? You say you're very experienced and have made hunters up before, yet many very experienced people sounded warnings, which seem to have been born out. Unfortunate about the fence, although that must have been some charger to kick out 1000 volts. . .

An update on the whole boxing day hunting madness thing. Firstly the hound that the horse kicked was fine. ( I called the MFH and she said that within 10 mins it was bouncing again) The horse was also fine to hack out afterwards - a bit twitchy, but that was to be expected (having had a 1,000 volts up his backside). The horse went hunting again this week with son riding ( a bit more laid back than me.....) it was good at the meet, but got a bit stressed early into to moving off - rearing / plunging (not really surprising given his intro on Boxing Day, my fault) - but son sat quietly and let it get on with it - an hour in, it was helping to whip in - so V good.
It will go out again next week - but hopefully all will be fine - more a story of a young horse gaining experience - than the nighmare of a mad hunter.......!
