My horse is on 5 months boxrest (PSD) it's only been 3 weeks and she is getting stressed already

. I am putting her out in a tiny paddock whilst I muck out both ends of the day so she can graze (fortunatley she is so greedy she is too busy scoffing to even consider moving around the paddock!) but I really need some tips to keep her occupied please! She has automatic water so can't do 'apple-bobbing' (plus she would be too stupid to figure out she has to bite the apples and would probably swallow them whole...

Thank you

I have a feeder ball, so some of the feed balancer nuts go in there. Only has once a day, and when the ball is empty it is removed.
Radio during the day time?
Haynets in different corners (remove at night)

What is the apple bobbing? Putting apples in the water bucket I presume?
They would have to be big apples in case of choking?

Orangehorse yes apple bobbing just as it says, apples in water bucket for horse to try and get it, I tried this but Mins was actually putting her whole head in the bucket trying to get the apple and was getting very upset that she couldnt grab it...was funny but stopped doing it as it's cold and dont fancy water all over the floor...

Hanging swedes or ropes of other horsey veggied, my chap has a lickit tongue twister which helps keep him entertained wihtout him going through them too quickly.
I hanf all his food toys over his hay pile so any bits that drop are then a nice surprise when he's muching his hay.
Some horses find stable mirrors a help.
My lad also loves having the equilibrium massage pad on , really chills him out so he has a session a day with it.
If your mare is being good in her little paddock would the vet ok her to be in a bit longer? Could you manage that?

Is there anyone that can put in a haynet a lunch for you? When my mare was off with PSD the YO was happy to drop her a treat dayy (with grass nuts in) & tie up a haynet for me. So she had something else to look forward to.
Likkits are great, but she learnt to demoilsh them in 5 mins or less!

I would still do apple bobbing thing - I did hte first time my mare was on box rest.. She LOVED it - no reason you can't have automatic water AND a bucket of water.

I've been dividing my mare's feeds up in to bucket of chaff here, some readi grass there, a haynet over there....keep her hunting for it.
