I decided to buy a Shockabsorber bra after the thread on here the other day so I went to Debenhams (80 mile round trip) and got measured. I was very surprised to find that I had gone from a 34" to a 38" as I've not put on any weight since I was last measured and also the lady said that the bra I was wearing (34") was a very good fit! Anyway, I bought the new large bra but I'm not very happy with it. I've worn it twice and both times, after I've ridden, the back of the bra has risen up to the middle of my shoulderblades. The front stays in place and, to be honest, it is controlling "the bounce" but surely it shouldn't move halfway up to my neck? I remember reading somewhere that if a bra moves in certain places e.g. back, front it means different things such as the back size is too small/large or the cup size. Is anyone on here an expert in these matters because I want to get another couple of bras but I want them to fit this time! Thanks ladies!!

I think that usually means the back size is too big, you probably are a 34 if they said the 34 was a good fit. I don't trust bra fitting services after having been told I'm 4 different sizes ranging from 30-34 and cup size ranging from A to D!

Which fastener (has it got three) have you got it done up on?

Should be fitted to be done up on the middle one but if it's riding up try the tighter setting.

Bra sizes are like clothes sizes in general - a size that may suit you perfectly from one company from another company may be completely wrong. You have to judge each indivdually. That's why I'm always amazed that people can buy them without trying on. As an example I have (properly fitted) bras as widely varying in size as 36C to 40A.

Doesn't sound as if yours is right though.

Yes, it has 3 fasteners but the bra fitting lady said you should always use the loosest one to start with as all bras stretch which is even more worrying since it is already baggy! I think I will have to make the long trek back into town and go to a different shop because I am not convinced that my ribcage has suddenly expanded. I have worn 34F for years now and never had any problems before. I agree that all bras are sized differently though so I am definitely going to try them on before buying.

Harri_and_flash, I agree about bra fitters. I think some of them are rubbish!

Sorry to hear of your troubles...not easy for us ladies!!! If you are looking at changing it or getting your money back, I would perhaps steer away from your normal high street shops and go for something a bit more specialised off the web...and yes it is possible to buy them off the web and they do fit! Try www.figleaves.com or www.lessbounce.com
I bought one some years ago for when I used to do running and it has really lasted well for all sports. I get round the riding problem nowadays because I always wear a body protector and that straps everything in!!!!

I use the bras and they are fab, though i have to admit I fitted it myself i.e. I measured my self around rib cage and then over bust. Can not remember how to work it out? Anywa mine fits fine. If they ride up at the back I would say its too big or too small

if the bra is on the loosest fitting,is likely to stretch and is already riding up your back then it is definitely to big around.Chances are you are a 34 and not a 38.

debenhams ladies dont have aclue when it comes to bra sizing, i was told i was a 38 G, when im actualy a 34 F. www.Bravissimo.co.uk have a very good guide to measuring your bra size and sorting out problems with bras moveing.

The back moveing up means that your bra is to big a back size so i would take it back and try a 34 (your normal size). when your in the changing room, adjust your self as usual and then bounce up and down, touch your toes and do some stretches, if it moves it doesnt fit!

Yes, if i were you I would go on your own fiting spree.

Your back strap is supposed to sit level. The cups should start where your boob starts not digging in to it and your boobs should fit nicely in the cup. So you know all that, I think you just need to go and have a trying on session.

When I used the self fitting guide, it said I should be a 32, rather than a 34 that I normally am, I bought one from TKMax and got a 32 (all they had), but its rather tight!! I woud try thir own measuring guide and get a different one if it annoys you, need to be comfy!

lol, I always have to have mine on the tightest fitting! You try buying a bra in a shop that is less than 32"! Have to buy in shop, because I have loads of trouble finding one that actually fits, seems to vary a lot.

Thanks everyone for the good advice. I wish I'd had the courage to say to the bra fitter that I thought she'd got it wrong and just choose my own size. I must be more assertive in the future because I don't suppose Debenhams will take this one back since I've worn it and washed it. I have actually got the bra in question on now because I'm just off down to the yard but it is irritating the hell out of me so I think I'll revert to an ordinary one until I get some better fitting ones sorted out.

I don't know whereabouts in Yorkshire you are but I would suggest that you go to Bravissimo in Leeds. They have very well qualified fitters and I have never had any problems with them. They'll keep taking you through their bras until you are happy

Try finding 34 F's that dont cost £50 a bra and dont look like parachutes!

capondeville I would take it back personally! That is what they said fitted, you have given it a good try and it does NOT fit - why should you lose out?!

I tried on a 36 the other day (in Tesco of all places, I am usually a M&S girl) and it was tight, so much so it was up my back, changed it for the 38 and it is great BUT I am on the last fastener - so really I needed a 37 LOL! However I have 38s that are baggy and 34 that are perfect, so go figure that! I personally HATE bra shopping so you have my sympathy!
