Bragging 'rant' and CC please :)

Hello

When i first started having lessons on my horse after a long break from schooling, i had started to have my legs too far forward too. I did start to ride longer, but gradually as someone else said ( down one hole then after a few days dropping down another etc) to get used to it gradually. My isntructor also told me to take my whole leg away from the saddle and reposition it, from the thigh, further back. She did actually grab my leg and move it the first time to show me what she meant, that really helped me as before i was just moving my lower leg back and ended up with a tendancy to tilt forward a little as a result (grrr!!) so now whenever i feel its slipping i take my whole leg away from the saddle and put if down slowly and further back (it kills my hips but then you are younger than me so you'll probably do it fine!!) it really works for me and mostly i feel like my seat is far more secure with longer stirrups and my legs in the right place! helpful on my nutty chestnut mare!x

Ahh i wouldnt worry about it, im 5ft5 and ride a 12.3hh, pony squisher much? ;) And i *try to* show her, and when she goes well, we get placed quite well, and i jump her up to 2ft9 at home (she could do better, but im a wimp) and we jump, well its more like pole hopping (2ft :o) at shows :) And for a 12.3hh and nearly 17 years old shes pretty good, jumps 3ft6 on the lunge (top of our wings) but i wouldnt worry about how tall you look for a horse, unless you want to show really well :)

And i would like to see you get your legs underneath you a bit more ( not sure if its been said, havnt read all of the posts :o) Not sure if its got a proper name, but my old instructor used to call it an armchair seat, because your lower leg goes forward and that makes you slouch a little :)
Ebs looks lovely btw :)

Hello. you look like shes going better, her pace is more consitant rather than stop starty. Youve got what i call showjumper legs:p drop your stirrups down a few and youll look loads better and in the pic id say put your saddle back a bit and you wont feel like your poking her elbow with your feet.;)

Shes defo going better few little tips for you, get her back legs engaging a little more shes just been a little lazy i know shes sharp for you some times but your need to transfer that into upwards impulsion rather than fastness. And she needs to come up over her back a bit more will helpwith her head. I always try and explain the way you want there back to be get a lunge whip get the 2 ends and bend the whip thats the shape your aiming to get with her back (im obviously exaggerating it) but you get my gist. but if you aim like this when she is been sharp when you half halt rather sticking her head our and resisting youll find shell sit on her hocks more and round her neck.

Well done though.:)

Tell her to jog on lol

I have a 16,2 and i am 5'7 i need a bigger horse (joke lol)

Really take no notice!!

And your mare is lovely!! <3

God forbid the child ever gets a boyfriend, she's going to be sorely dissapointed...

hahahah fantastic point!!

I'm 26 and 5'2" with a 15.2. Had a 16.3 for a few weeks and we didn't get on. have had my 15.2 for nine years now, wouldn't change him for the world (and he got placed jumping fox so don't worry about it!)

only a small cc on your riding as it was quite blurry: the old diagonals situation. Also don't forget to keep your hands soft - at times they looked rather fixed onto the pommel but like I say, was quite hard to tell.

You are a nice, tidy rider and certainly not too big for her (IMO)

I agree with all who said ignore her. I'm 5ft2 and have ridden a wide veriety of horses from shetlands to 18hh hunters. :)
Ponies are the best in my opinion :D I currently have a 12.2hh forester and a 14.1hh forester (shhhhh don't tell Merryn (the 14.1hh) but Horrid (the 12.2hh) Is my favorate ;) :p :D :D)
My old mare who I sadly lost in July was 13.2hh. She was an amazing jumper and if I was braver would have been an amazing JA pony. :o
This is her loose jumping.

There was no runout tunnel. The only time I ever used one she refused to jump the small cross pole and jumped the runout tunnel from a compleat standstill (It was 5ft :eek:) out hunting we reguly used to jump hedges that where over 5ft high :D :D But one of the hunters I used to ride was 17.2hh and he wouldn't even go over a trot pole :p ;) :D
Your mare looks lovely. Just ignore this girl and enjoy your horse. :):) xx

Thanks for help everyone :p
apparntly i was told getting her to use her bumend and work from the back more is going to be harder cause her arthitris! so takes longer for me to get her working probally :o

im sorry LauraWheeler for you loose she looks a fab horse, strange my horse doesnt 'do' freejumping she stops about 4ft... when i can jump 4.6ft on her so obv she can go higher, but chooses not too ;) :o
