Our Tess started having what seemed extreme anxiety attacks December. They were not very often but no triggers to why they happened. Over time they have become more frequent and extreme. Our vet thinks she may have a brain tumour. We have an appointment with a neurologist this Monday for tests and brain scan. Has anyone been through this with their dog and what were your experiences. It’s so distressing for her and to watch. She’s now on daily medication to keep stable till Monday.

I am sorry to read this, I had black labrador bitch, she started being odd, ie she would come into the house and couldn't find her bed and would fall off my deck and forget to finish her dinner. Her eyesight also deteriorated rapidly. It all happened quite quickly, vet diagnosed a brain tumour which was what I suspected. She had steroids for a few days but they were only postponing the inevitable. She was PTS about a week after diagnosis.

Some years ago now, my 13yr old collie started having sessions of being worried and panting, and coming for reassurance. Then we had a night when she woke us up barking and we found her backed in a corner and obviously stressed. Let her out and had a job to get her back in as she didn't seem to know where she was. A few days later my husband called me and said she had gone wobbly, coulddn't control her back end. Back to normal very quickly but only a few days later she suddenly started fitting and didn't properly come out of it. Rushed her to vet and they gave her rectal diazepam which didn't help, nor did a second lot and she was still fitting, been about 20 mins or more by then. It was explained to us that they could put her right out but that the dog that came back most likley wouldn't be 'her' and that it was almost certainly neurological/brain tumour. She was pts. Terrible shock as I had only just got back from a walk with her and she had her tea then the fitting started.
I really hope yours has a happier ending than ours.

My old ( 11) little lurcher girl started losing her sight, a scan revealed a tumour behind her eyes. She had 6 sessions of radiotherapy, and she got enough sight back to have a better quality of life for around 6-8 months, when she pretty much lost her sight again and there were other signs she was distressed we stopped. I would do the radiotherapy again, as despite being scared of vets, she tolerated the visits and the radiotherapy well. Cambridge Vet School were amazing with her and allowed me to be with her as she went to sleep and be there when she woke up.
It totally depends on the dog and what is needed to help them I think.
