Iv gust gained a place to do a foundation in sports horse management and training at Brakenhurst. I just wondered if there are any good livery yards within reasonable hacking distance so i would be able to use the facilities at the campus, good turn out is very important along with nice friendly people and decent facilities :)
appreciate any help and suggestions, thanks!

You can livery your horse at the college if you like - you can either put yours on working livery or they have their own DIY livery stables at just down the lane from the main yard (or they did when I was there but that was back in 1996!!). Some fellow students also kept their two on a yard that backed on to the college yard so that was handy. You are probably best contacting the college to be honest.

My horses was on working livery there when i was there (he was only there for one year though) and he actually did really well on it as he's that type of horse, plus they do get turn out unlike some other colleges. However, I know not all horses are suitable for college livery life - they do assess them first. Mine seemed to thrive off it as he loves attention and loves pleasing people and learning.

Honestly I never heard anything good about the on-site yard while I was there. However they do have a small DIY bit that was nice when I looked after someone's horse there. There are several small yards around Southwell, but provably not hacking distance (southwell is a bit remote!). trent valley in fiskerton, although it was only part/full livery. There is a yard on crew lane but very small and limited turn out. There are more smaller yard around fiskerton. You'd be better off finding a yard slightly out of southwell and forget the idea of hacking to Brack! That is if you own a car ;)

Well, I have to say I did finish there in 1998 so things could well have changed but when i was there I had no issues at all about my horse being kept on the livery yard and all horses got turn out all year round I believe unlike some other colleges (Bishop Burton being an example) where horses are cooped up in stables for the whole time.

I took my pony to Brack as well in my first year but kept him at the DIY livery bit at Durdam farm (just next to the college stables) and that was fine, you were left to your own devices. He couldn't have been used on the yard as he was/is far too neurotic! lol

my daughter left brack last year .. they have 2 yards off campus, both are ok, and 25 per week livery, provide your own hay and straw... there were lots of spaces last year.. though on the course you are taking you will have to do your own horse before starting mucking their horses out and groom and sweep up etc and their work starts at 7am.. so you will have to get used to early mornings and late nights... if you are lucky you will get time to ride your horse once a week...

I am at brack at the moment although I dont have my horses there. However friends do have horses on livery there. Theres a couple of smaller yards and then main yard where most are as others have said they get good turnout year round.

The rules are quite strict (it's a standing joke at brack if you see a horse you should be wearing hat and gloves!) and they won't have horses with vices but the price isn't bad last time I checked I think it was about £30ish for diy.

I have a list of local yards sent to me by the yard manager (when I was thinking of bringing a horse). Therefore if you would like the list or any other info about brack pm me your email. :)

...I did my pony after the yard duties as he was off at the separate stables so I could do what I wanted and, quite frankly as I was paying for the livery I would do as I pleased with my own. The other girls keeping their horses there used to give me funny looks and chunter about me I think (nice as pie to my face) as mine might be in a little later than theirs but my pony isn't one who cares about that, he wasn't a fretter. Plus, they were doing the degree course that meant they didn't do early yard duties anyway.

Im sorry, but how rediculous to refuse to have a horse with vices!!!

Thanks for all the help!
I am considering keeping my horse at the on-site yard but apparently places can be limited. (star girl- Honestly I never heard anything good about the on-site yard while I was there) Any ideas why people dont rate ?
