I currently school Adrian in a loose ring french link with a flash, which is totally fine. The problems start with jumping. He can get very strong/keen, but in a french link gag, middle ring, he throws his head up very high & screws it round. (Teeth & saddle fine. Teeth done by a v good EDT recently; saddle is a recently fitted WOW.)

In the french link snaffle he's dangerous as I might as well be riding in a headcollar with the leadrope for reins. Ie no brakes & no steering at all.

In a kimblewick, he doesn't do the head in the air, twisty neck thing, & is controllable but I don't like him in it cos he doesn't go forward enough.

Has anyone got any ideas re what I could try next?

Have you tried a grakle or combination noseband with the french link? A Dr Bristol might be worth a try if he likes the double joint.

If he is happy in the kimblewick what sort of curb do you use?? If you have a curb chain, just adding a curb guard or switching to either a leather or an elastic curb may help.

Dr Bristol - good idea - hadn't thought of that.

Kimblewick - currently just use a chain. Can't hurt to try using something milder. I will give them both a go. Ta!
