have a super new pony for very lightweight 7

year old granddaughter, whose ability is not up to her

ambition.Needs a little more control so thought a hanging

cheek snaffle would help. Any advice?

Also how is he strong? does he lean??

Tbh I think more schooling would be the way forward before changing bits.

Thanks for your interest, pony is 11 hand section a and very well behaved but not a slug. Child needs a bit more control
when riding outside.

try it when outside but maybe back to original bit in the school so she can work with original bit and then you may be able to use original bit for everything.
A hanging cheek is a sensible suggestion compared to some people who would just say "stick a gag/pelham in it"

I'd a grree - stick a bigger child rider who can ride well on to school him. Also try to find her an instructor for a few lessons on him to gain her confidence and get her in control - IME children don't listen to parents/grandparents as well as they do Other People.

And enjoy! Will soon be outgrown.

Thank you for all the advice which rather confirms my

thinking.He really is a saint of a pony and not very strong,

but child is very slight and very determined and brakes work

most of the time,particularly on the arena,but he takes alittle

more stopping in an open situation.
