i have never been but daughter is now at Uni in York so am combining a visit and we are going on the Sunday. i regularly attend Belton and Burghley ,my locals and know my way around. We want to make a really full fun day so any tips on what to do and see on the day plus is the shopping as good as Burghley and do i need tickets for the showjumping....

I did the same as you last year with daughter at Uni. It is a lovely low key event with other attractions as well as the hunter trials. The shopping area is not as large as Burghley but reasonable. I don't think you need separate tickets for the jumping but website should confirm. It is a really lovely venue and I hope you enjoy it.

Bramham is FABULOUS! I live locally in York but camp over for the weekend for the whole thing anyway as its such a lovely event. The shopping isnt as big as Burghleys but they do have a pretty good shopping village and usually some good bargains to be had. You dont need seperate tickets for the sj as there is no grandstand seating - there are a few wooden benches or if not bring your own camping chairs etc - be warned it gets PACKED so grab a space early if you can.

They usually have good BSJA/Grand Prix/ 6 bar competitons on as well so theres lots to watch. Two sides of the arena are covered by Members tents so its often well worth paying a little extra to watch in a bit more comfort and in a bit of a smaller crowd if your really into watching each and every round.

I do however recommend a walk around the xc course/park. Its truely beautiful. The smell of the wild garlic in the woods is gorgeous :)

MUCH better than Burghley I'm but then I am biased and I am not a shopper! :-) Lots going on other than just the main event and much easier to see the showjumping as not all in grandstands like at the others so you can get your own chair pitched up. Some good BSJA classes Sunday after the eventers have finished too.

Another regular as live just outside of York. I have to say I actually prefer it to badminton! We Always go Showjumping day, you can get right by the ring with fantastic views and always seem to pick up some bargain or other! We love it

.....plus PC mounted games and a fair few other things. Not sure if they'll bring the mix 'n' match (pairing a SJer with an eventer) back this year as that's good fun on the Sun

There is NO cross country on Sunday! There are 2 arenas no tickets needed to watch .( I think you can gain access after 4 pm without charge to go round the large selection of stalls, so a Saturday night shopping trip will give a full Sunday for showjumping .)Check the website for timetables for all events and admission times & prices .

Another regular camper there and fan. We camp there and at Burghley every year and Bramham is much, much better. The shopping has plenty of shops, three avenues around two arenas, less of the jewellery etc that you get at Burghley, but most of the main tack shops etc and a smaller food/craft tent. You don't need tickets for show jumping. Just rock up with your deck chair.

Saturday is the best day to go if you are only going on one day. There is CIC*** show jumping before the XC, so you can see eventers show jump as well as do XC. There is also BS grade A show jumping, so you get all the big show jumping names there too, and pony club competitions in the next arena.

Thursday evening has late night shopping until 8pm, when it is much quieter to shop, always worth a visit..

My local event I am glad to say am 10mins down the road, can highly recommend it. Good selection for the shoppers, plenty of bargains to be had, full programme of events in both arena's no extra tickets required, just turn up and watch, mounted games, young event horse classes and top class show jumping. Then the main event, fab dressage in main arena, then you can get very close to most of the fences XC, and enjoy the SJ both in the arena and on the big screen. Looking forward to it :) :)

I'm another bramham lover. We go down on Friday afternoon, check into the hotel then do the late shopping trip so we can concentrate on horses on Saturday.

I think the shopping is pretty good there, enough but not too many

As some have a said you can shop from 4pm on Friday night until 8pm free entrance which really good for bargins. Cross country on Saturday is my favourite day we had a lovely day last year the weather was glorious and managed to get cooperate tickets so was really spoilt all day :)

Love Bramham too. Shopping and food with the girls on Friday night, walking course on Saturday and having to tear myself away from the show jumping afterwards to go do the horses. I think I've only missed one year in the last 30.
If you do walk the course, as with anywhere else it can be quite muddy through the wooded or narrow sections if there has been a lot of rain (which there is here at the moment) so make sure you have boots!
Can't wait!

And PC team show jumping - I'm doing this :D !!
It's on the Saturday so setting off very early to watch some xc and shop as well!! Can't wait went a few years back to watch XC and SJ.

Really looking forward to this year, not taking the dog again, but taking a baby instead so will be able to buy lots of cute things.

Valonty and RisingMist - good luck in the PC jumping, my mum will be there as normal with her bunch too so I normally go along to watch.

I love watching the big name, and big local name showjumping, its really good fun, and I really hope they have the mix and match too as I love that. :)
