Bran Mash

Just wondering, does anyone still feed a hot bran mash after a hard day's hunting, and if so, do you feed it on it's own, or mixed through normal feed. Was strangely worried yesterday, that after a ten mile sponsered ride, nobody i asked had even heard of it. Am I that passed it???

Yes I use to feed it and feed it warm after hunting. And i still would if I needed too.
Use to add it normal feed and as a extra feed.
Sometime they even got a bit of stout too.

I always say you need to put back in what you take out!

Always! Can't beat it as a comfort feed and brilliant for those inclined to colic. Might not have a lot of feed 'value' these days but it's one of the handiest feeds to have around and I wouldn't be without it.

BTW, always used to feed it after hunting with some oats and either boiled linseed or boiled barley and a dash of salt. A normal night feed would be half scoop of crumbly warm damp bran with scoops of oats and nuts, horses loved it and did very well on it with no digestion problems at all.

Thanks guys, Joey loved his bran mash on Sunday evening. I fed it mixed through his normal feed. I just couldnt believe noone had heard of it, that I spoke to on Sunday.

Gone are the days (except perhaps for racing yards) when bran was tipped into a big barrow, oats, linseed that had been boiled and added to the bran, mixed with a shovel and then covered with sacks to keep it hot and allow it to cook.

I loved the small and horses loved the taste.
