Does anybody know the results from the trial or know where I would be able to get them please? Thank you :)

Thank you very much, and does anybody happen to know if they all measured in ok? I had heard that there were slight concerns over a couple..

Results are up. Looks like a dressage competition once again. Pity really, Withington far more of a test.

It was fairly tough, it only seems like a dressage competition because they are all so good.

Not sure I can agree with you on this one - yes, the standard is very high, but some of the higher placed combinations haven't cut it jumping in earlier trials.

I cannot comment on this year's xc track or indeed last year. However the year before, the first at this venue, was a very soft novice let alone a championship track. I am sure it has been beefed up but clearly not enough.

I agree that it does appear to be a bit of a dressage competition, although this possibly just down to the the very high quality of the horses.

WHat is Eliminated Ph D

Is it a system left over from the old format, therefore meaning eliminated in the xc, the section that would have been the old Phase D? Not sure though, it seems a bit odd.

Also I heard that one didn't measure up, although I'm not sure who this is. It must be so disappointing after all that work.

There was one pony measured out and a few had to re show at the end cus they would not stand and there was quite a bit of queuing so they put the non stander to the end so to keep it moving and not leaving everyone standing about but all measured but one.

Re XC course the time was easy to get with ponies that had not made the time in the other trials making the time ok, all kids by this time are very good but there was a riders/parents meeting after XC where some of the very knowledgable parents giving there thoughts on the event and the course etc the Pony Selectors were very good and answered question and were helpful and the meeting was left feeling positive and that thing maybe different next year

Here's our video from the weekend http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIvNcGCYGTs&feature=youtube_gdata_player

What happened with the horse that was measured out, were they still allowed to run in this trial as normal?

We were told by Sarah H in an email earlier in the season if you measured out you could still run but HC, but this pony did not run in then pony section, I can honestly say they tried very hard to let the ponies settle and gave plenty of time to measure and the Vet was very helpful.

Unless things have changed in the last two years, then yes, they are allowed to run. They just will not be considered for teams. One pony that measured out two years ago ran again last year and was very well placed - but not picked for teams. More worryingly, another that measured out was sold on advertised as team prospect pony!! It is all kept very hush hush which ponies measure out, possibly for good reason as it might well measure in another time since horse height is a moveable feast, though with the 3cm allowance it should be pretty clear cut. That, however, is a whole different debate!

Sounds like there are a fair amount of politics involved in Pony Trials!

Is the team now chosen based on Brand Hall, or are all other trials counted in equal weighting?

They say that there picked on there results from Withington and Brand Hall but 3 of the top 10 either did not do or did not finish Withington. Should think it's going to be a hard year to pick the right team (sure they say that every year) glad I'm not picking!

Agree it will be a hard choice - but I think it might have been 4 of the 10 not 3, which underlines my earlier point!

Great video btw :)

Glad you like the video that was all taken and edited on a iphone4!

Having looked again 5 out the top 11 didnot complete or did not compete at Withington

Bellapuff has summarised it pretty well. The course was a bit soft, and measured leniently. It walked easy and I hoped that might be misleading but it wasn't! The rumour going round the lorry park was that it was softened as last time the Champs were in Poland the XC was easy but the SJ was huge, but I don't think this is the case as the Selectors were as disappointed as the rest of us. The meeting they held with us all afterwards was very constructive and welcome and it became clear that we are all on the same side. There were a number of aspects of the competition that were highly unsatisfactory, given that this is "Badminton" for the pony lot, so let's hope something can be done before next year. It has become increasingly clear that the Pony set-up has limited control of events and has to tread carefully in negotiating with the Organisers... And there, I think, I shall leave that one ;)

The last day was a lot better, with a tense SJ and a fantastic prize-giving with loads of atmosphere and all the riders involved through the informal team competition. And huge congratulations to Tor Smith on a superb pillar to post victory in her first year of trials, beating all the established combinations :) Personally, I think most of the six is fairly easy to pick, with just the odd question mark - one who looked like a cert had a couple of unfortunate poles SJ which they could have done without. Selection is carried out this week, six plus two non-travelling reserves, based on results in all the trials but with Withington and Brand carrying more weight. Catherston Nutsafe should be available for selection, she has tweaked her shoulder but it isn't thought to be too serious. That's why she didn't SJ, but she did pass the second trot up.

By the way, about five or six ponies initially measured out, however only one vet was present as Tim Randle had been delayed, so they had the chance to re-present a little later once he turned up and then all but one measured in. However, I believe those who were very marginal are to be asked to have a further official measuring to clarify their position: on the one hand the surface being used wasn't particularly even, on the other hand there is a time limit and at a Championship they won't get 20 minutes to settle the pony enough to measure in (bearing in mind this is at 151cm not 148.) I support the move to make sure ponies really are just that, but there is a painful transition taking place as there are established ponies on the circuit, some of whom have change hands several times for huge sums, which if they get measured out will have their value slashed - the current owners are the ones left holding the grenade after the pin has been pulled out, as it were... The pony who very sadly measured out could have run HC (new rules this year) but sensibly transferred to the CIC* instead.

Very interesting, thanks for the information. I just had a look at the results and I cannot work out (bar a few very obvious people) who the team will be, although I expect you have much more inside info!

Have they made the measuring in more strict recently? I know they have in show jumping and wondered if it was change over all disciplines. I can think of one 'pony' in particular that I can never imagine being under the given height, despite having done the trials for a good few years, although they did seem to be accepted ok at the weekend :). It must be so disappointing to fall at the final hurdle so to speak, having put all that work in.
