I know of several families that have the 'posh lorry, pricey pony' combo.
It doesnt make a child a brat. I would assume OP doesnt have small children who ride??
I would be annoyed if my daughter's pony tried to eat grass at a show. My rule is no eating grass whilst wearing a bridle... that is drummed into him (and her!) to save him snatching at grass when being led / ridden in a bridle.
My daughter is taught that if all else fails, the bit is where the control is. I have yanked him up by his reins, so if he was taking the pee with my daughter i'd expect her to use the bit for control too.
There's a little girl who was doing the circuit a couple of years ago, a black girl (am i allowed to say that?) aged about 8 who on first impressions came across as very brattish. Super lorry, SUPER palomino pony, and plum in mouth. But I watched that girl ride, and wow she deserved every red rosette she got. And afterwards she walked that pony calmly round, before untacking, brushing it off and rugging it lovingly. Before we left I spotted her by the lorry cuddling another pony. I later saw her in H&H magazine and she looked every inch the professional.
Moeny doesnt always equal brats. I've seen kids with £200 ponies and battered trailers act like brats too...
