A bit of a pointless post. Some of you may remember me posting a while ago about my worries of hacking out alone on my very nappy young mare.
Well I was sat at college all day today looking at the lovely weather just wanting to go for a ride. So I got home and decided to be really brave/stupid and took her out on her own for the first ever time. She didn't put a foot wrong, even when the very load bird scarer went off, twice!! We even had a little trot.
So am very happy and just had to tell someone

well done you!
i'm sure i'm not the only reader to appreciate the high you can get from just getting back from a hack in one piece, and better still for your 'crazy' horse to have behaved like an angel!
some of us have to hack alone - we have no choice - even on stroppy youngsters!
so take sensible precautions (mobile phone, body protector, high viz, neck strap!) and think positive.
my mare was extremely sharp as a youngster and at times i was scared to go out but had to do it - the more we hacked out the better she got and the more relaxed and trusting i got - so enjoy!
Anyhow calm, warm weather seems to be arriving - i find the 3 horses i have in the winter (the daft, spooky, sharp ones) go away for the summer and are replaced by 3 much calmer, more sensible ones. so make the most of it, by next winter she'll probably be fine!

Thanks Perce, that sounds positive. I really want to try and get her going out alone consitantly this summer so that I don't have to bore her in the school!
