BRC Pairs Dressage?

Looking ahead to summer quals Im quite keen to have a go at the pairs dressage with a friend. Just a quick question or two - I will of course buy the test later but can anyone tell me what 'level' BRC Pairs 4 (2004) would fit into? Has it got novice movements (medium trot, rein backs ect)? Also is it an 'unwritten requirement' that horses should be similar looking, and will people think we look silly with a 15hh black pony and 16hh bay pony?

Your allowed to up to novice movements but you only have 4mins to do your programme in - horses can be different colours but main thing you need is, you have to have matches paces this is the key, if you don't have this cos your not the same colour you'll stand out!!! and you'll will be mark down cos judges will see differents. Plus you have to ride as 'a pair', when i was doing you should have no gap between horses even a fag paper couldn't get pass!!! lots of bruises for riders knees

I've did couples of year ago and did very well we were on matching bay of 15hh1 and 15hh3, to do well i would suggest that you should happy competeting at BD novice level minium and even better if you are at Elem level at home
 
I used to do it with a 15.1 coloured cob and a 16.2hh grey ID x. We used to do quite well, as the cob was buzzy and the IDx quite staid.

We changed to another 15.2hh tb x with the same grey and won another year.

This year we might be using a 14.1hh coloured tb and a 13.2 tank.

Its great fun, you should def have a go.

- we make up our own test? Just the BRC website says test "Pairs test 4 (2004)" will be used so I assumed there was a standardised test, or is it more there is a list of movements that must be included? Me and pony are definetely not elementary standard so might give it a miss.

Yes, just make it up, as long as ist 4 mins long. Neither of our horses were doing any BD, and only RC at Novice.

Ours were stable mates, so we were able to stay together nearly all time time. The only time we split was to do a nifty change of sides, as we always had to have the cob on the outside for the canters!

We used to get good marks as they were so close up the whole of the test.
 
CH contact your area comps secretary they will have a copy of the test that they can let you have as they are in the back of the rulebook, for some reason they still havent gone on the new BRC website. If I could find my rule book I would email it to you!

I did both the music pairs and normal pairs last year on my welshie with a friends newfie. Welshie found it great fun and they get on well, you need to be much closer than you might think

The test is 'novice' level but only because of the medium trots I think the rest of the requirements are otherwise basic

I dont do BD but we were both doing novice unaff wellish! though the newfie struggles with his mediums so we had to try and dupe the judge! and there were only 2 pairs doing the normals in the summer so it really doesnt matter if it goes a bit wrong cos it is good fun seriously dont give it a miss, you can make up a test to suit you, we kept ours quite simple

the majority of the test is to be ridden as a pair rather than mirror image and there are marks for amiability etc.

Will have a play in the school and see if the horses will match each other. My little one has a fairly long stride and the bigger horse a short stride so hopefully they might meet in the middle! As we're able to make up a test we should hopefully be able to find something we can manage - only really want to enter for fun and to try something new (plus make journey to the areas for team comp a little more worthwhile!!)

cantering to start was interesting! outside horse has to go sig faster than you might think in comparison to inside horse. First time we did it we were all over the place

don't get me wrong brilliant fun, we took a normal prelim test and amended to fit. We won areas and got to championship 2 years running, this is why i said if you want to do well at national level you need to be at BD Novice or higher level, you're allowed to have BD point but i can't remember how many.
Try and make even patterns and don't split and if you can add in a twist or party peice

We are thinking of doing this this year! Ours are grey and bay so won't match colour wise!! But they are both 14.2hh arabs and match very well pace and movement wise so hopefully will not matter too much that they aren't the same colour. Quite exciting!
