Break in - Adding insult to injury

Unfortunately a week ago we were visited by the scum of the earth and had our tack room broken into.
It felt very much targeted as after turning the place upside down they made off with my driving harness, 2 sets of clippers, a strimmer and oddly some riding boots.
They left every single saddle (thanking my lucky stars on that) and plenty of other items that I would have said were of value. They broke into the shed where my carriage lives but didn't touch it and carriage is now being stored elsewhere!

By the end of the day I had come to terms with it (probably swore the most I had in a long time) only to realise that they had put all of the stolen items into my big wheel barrow and made off with that as well! Fuming!

We've done the police report etc and are looking for ways we can improve the security - so my question is best value camera that we can put up that will you notify you if there is activity?

I have been very touched by my friends and the wider horsey community (shoutout to the driving lot) who have contacted me with offers of harness to borrow and possible sets they have for sale. It does help restore your faith in people and not everyone is a ****!

I guess now the nights are pulling in we all need to be extra vigilant and careful! The people that did us had a right night of it as broke into some nearby farm buildings and tried some other yards too!

I'm really sorry to here you've been targeted. It's heart breaking these skip-rats feel they can just take anything they want when we work so hard to pay for it all.

We have the above camera's in 4 different places round our place so the whole property is covered. They work pretty well and we have smarty sim cards in them which cost £4.50 a month each for a data only sim.

We had a break in a few years back and they used my sack trucks to ferry everything to their vehicle and like you that hurt me more than the stuff they had taken which felt very wrong but I assume I was probably overwhelmed and it was straw that broke the camels back.

We have camera's on the main gates and in the fields (more for checking horses than security) and they have brought a great piece of mind. Sadly I do not think anything truly deters these people.

We had a friend that was broken into a few years age and they took all his garden equipment. Insurance paid out and he replaced it - 6 weeks later they stole all the new stuff! incredible!

Sorry about that. It is horrible. Years ago at yard, had break in and they used wheelbarrow as well to move stuff, but left that by where they had been camped. Was quite weird seeing policeman wheeling friend's wheelbarrow down the road! Couple of lads had called into the yard on foot the previous day looking for a lost dog, which was essentially them casing the joint. I was very suspicious and didn't let them round our part of the yard but they had had a good look the other side. A lot of is is looking at any week points, so door frames or the roof to try to make it as difficult as possible. Horrible.

Apparently this is common. They know how to get in and know everything will be replaced.

Sorry to hear about your break in. We had the tack room at the livery yard I'm on cleared a few years ago. They also moved everything via our wheelbarrows to get across the field to the vehicle they'd parked on the lane. I had my saddle stolen and I didn't leave the replacement at the yard for many years. We now have lots of security cameras but we have been burgled since they were installed. They didn't target the tack room but stole trailers, caravans and motorbikes stored at the farm. It was all on camera but they had their faces covered. I was once told that the only deterrent are noisy dogs.

We had our quad stolen last year - they were on camera but had their faces covered and then smashed the camera anyway … sorry you’ve been burgled - it’s a horrible feeling

This happened to a woman who I shared a yard with some years ago. Her expensive rug was stolen off her horse’s back. She replaced it only for them to come back and steal the new one. Luckily, as she had written her postcode all over it, they must have suddenly noticed this and dumped it nearby.

Thanks everyone, its sad to see so many other folks have experienced the same.
Well aware they will most likely return so our tack room now looks even more burgled lol! Nothing much in it at all!
If someone wants in they will get in, the best we can do is make it as hard as possible!
The yard they tried up the road has proper cctv and gets them on camera but of course they're covered up, wearing gloves etc. The sad fact is they are very clever and know exactly what they are doing, pity they couldn't apply themselves to something better in life!

It's so annoying as I'm within walking distance to the yard from my house (15 mins via footpaths) but if I want to ride I'll need to drive down as can't carry everything down with me, urgh!!

I feel for you. Ghastly thing to happen. We were burgled 8 times in 12 months at our yard some years ago now. It cost us thousands in repairs and replacements. I felt as if I was being watched all the time. There is nothing there now that doesn't have to be and we have monitors all over the place. They set an alarm here at home so that we can respond immediately. Sadly I can't find anything like them now. I think the technology has moved on to mobile phone alerts. I hope they catch the scumbags but doubt it. They never caught our thieving toerags.

I think that is the most worrying, you have been watched or someone has told them what you have. My neighbour had their house broken in to while on holiday, they seem to choose a day or so before you come back, they stole objects that were valueable, not the obvious TV etc, so someone must given a good idea of the contents and that they were away, we lived in a cul de sac..
My mum was broken in to twice while she was at work when she lived on her own, and for the people breaking in, its just a job. Its the pits.

I have Reolink cameras, the Go and the GoPT, they are pretty old now, but still work fine. Reolink Support is brilliant if you do have any problems, (and are very kind when, after trying to help you for an hour, you realise that the reason it isn't working is because you've forgotten to put the aerial on...)
