Oh god.. don't even want to think about adding up how much per month for my two.. 
Just to bare in mind-sometimes skinny horses for sale are like that on purpose due to the seller letting them go in that condition so they seem calm- once you've fed them up there could be the chance they could go abit nutty!
However hopefully this is not the case with your friend's possible horse, just something to keep in mind
