Breakfall Training - Lincs, Cambs, Norfolk area.

I am interested however horseless at the moment but still think it would be great practise for when I get out eventing again. Got loads of 'stuff' hanging around to add to the car boot sale as well........ keep me updated please x

i would definitely be interested but would depend on dates as my collarbone plate is only 3 weeks old and i don't want it stress it too much yet! ;)

If there's space I'd be very interested. I fell off very few times as a child and tbh I'm terrified of doing it now that I'm an old lady. And it's a lot further to the ground from a 16.3 than it is from a 14 hander!

Happy to travel, contribute to cost etc.

I would be interested - quite used to falling as a gymnast is a previous life, and have recently gone back as an adult, not sure weather that would help or hinder me though!!!

I'm North Leicestershire. Kerilli, could you give me a few place names around your area so I can multimap to assess feasibility

Oh, that sounds good, please come aboard!

I'm very near Long Sutton, PE12 postcode, there's a good chance it'll be here, but of course that probably means that the arena surface will be wet, so waterproofs requd. Tons of parking, easy to find, and free though, and free pitches for Equine Car Boot Sale as an additional attraction... ;)

Fosdyke is about 15 mins north of here towards Sleaford, and there's a nice privately-owned indoor there that I hope we'd be able to hire for the day (adds to the cost though obviously).

Thinking more about it, if we want to do this at a weekend (which I think is going to be best, especially because Neil is driving over 200 miles for this and so asking him to come for 1 evening is a bit much imho, plus this'll be tricky enough in the daylight, I don't want to practise in the dark) then I doubt any of the big show centres would be available anyway, they'd be holding competitions in the indoors, and/or prohibitively expensive possibly.

If we do this for a day, we could do a morning and an afternoon session, with a break for lunch (bring your own or i'll do a dawn raid on Co-op in the village for their lovely rolls etc), watch some vids, have some chat, swap/sell stuff at Car Boot, and then do another session.
Say starting at 10.30 am or 11 am for an hour and a half's session, break for lunch, then another session in the afternoon.
Thoughts? Is that too early?
If there are loads of us then maybe 2 sessions twice, for two different groups, depends what Neil thinks...
Other suggestions welcome please!

as a London/essex person too, that is very very interested, the PE12 is the better venue for me, but it is still one hell of a hike.

What would be the possiblity of two sessions, one london/south way and one more northerly

Id be interested in coming depending on date, im derby area.
Last time i fell off all I could think off was dont put your hand out you will break your wrist so landed on my head instead!! Good technique eh??

All sounds good.

Two sessions in a day would really give everyone a good chance to get the basics off pat and those that are more adventurous could try going over jumps or trying a 'flying roll', rather like diving into a swimming pool, but on the ground :D

No horses needed, we simply cannot reproduce the same dynamic effect...well, not with anything sane anyway.

Grubby yard clothes (and a change for after), as we ARE going to be rolling around on the floor and we ARE going to get dirty. Wet surfaces are great, as they show me exactly what bits have been in contact with the ground

Sounds great Kerilli, im in the process of getting an email out to my riding club to see if i get any interest back from that, im sure there will be a few!!
Weekend, location and times sound good :)

Ah, right, hadn't thought of that. Great.

Okaaay... well, I think it should probably be chez moi then, which has the advantages that:
it's free.
Neil will be staying here so less hassle for him.
Somewhere warm we can all bundle into at lunchtime to warm up, scoff lunch, watch vids, yadda yadda.
OH can do all the videoing.
Loads of parking.
In South Lincs but close to Norfolk and Cambs borders so hopefully we can get a good big group or two...
Oh, did i mention it's free...?! = more money for charities I hope.

3 1/2 hrs from Weston-super-Mare :D

I'm really looking forward to this, well done Kerilli for getting it organised.

Superb!! Looks like just under 2 hours for me so will be asking Daddy/OH/friends nicely to put the ponies to bed.

Are we looking before Christmas or after?

Will PM you now Kerilli - Definatly interested with baby pony due for backing next year

We'll come :D

Might be a bit late for me... ho hum, but I'll act as chauffeur and bring a few along :D. There'll be D1 and probabably Friend's daughter to do the falling, and D and D2 to take photographs :D. We all used to do Aikido, so maybe D1 will remember how :D

Happy to contribute to whatever needs contributing to.

Weekend would be good for us.

this is looking good, the plan's coming together.
i think we're looking at a Saturday in November, prob 13th, 20th or 27th, i'll start a new thread to get votes on the best day, as Neil and I are both pretty flexible about it I think...

Just like falling off a ...hmmm that's not right. Just like riding a bike (:D) it'll soon come back.

I'll stress this point when we all meet up, but this is the equivalent of your first ever riding lesson. I will try to give everyone plenty to take away and practice, and practice you must.

MrsM, the Japanese have a phrase; 'training with your eyes'. ;)

is there a train station near you ?
i'm from berkshire so it would be quite a long trip in the car & I'm only 16 am I allowed to come ? :o
will contribute costs etc :D

I think it's a pretty horrid train journey from Berks to Cambs but if it helps I'm very close to March and could collect Solopony from March station.

I'd like to come- please, and am more than happy to contribute.

I do wicked brownies and cookies, and flapjack......

Solopony- I will come from Buckinghamshire- depending upon where you are in Berks, I could collect you, or from a train station on route. SImilarly, anyone else from the Bucks region?!

Yes, if it is a weekend I can make - am at Aintree the 12th/13th/14th Nov, then I am also happy to pick people up. I am a rubbish passenger tho!

I will be coming from J24 M1 sort of area - can pick up from East Mids Parkway station/Loughborough station easily.

Also drive an estate so if you want to take stuff for the boot sale, I have plenty of room!
