Hello, I am sure you all expected me to be using my Black_Horse profile. I had the profile banned so i could no longer access this forum. For a number of reasons a break was needed as i became too reliant on other peoples opinions when i should really be listening to my own.

I thought i would update you all on dee. For those of you who do not know, Delicia has always been a tricky horse to ride. She got steadily worse till is became apparent this was not her being naughty, but something was terribly wrong. After 3 months of lameness, xrays, bones scans and nerve blocks, she was diagnosed with Kissing spines, SI issue and issues in both hind suspensories.

Her competition career is over.

She became very poor after being at the vets for a week and i cannot thank Bell Equine enough for their support, and my sponsor so going beyound the call of duty and helping to support Delicia and I through a very hard time.

She has had Tildren treatment, steroid injections and undergoing shockwave thereapy at present. The vet thinks this is trauma based and we can date back when we think this happened.

She may or may not be ridden again, at the moment we just dont know. At the moment she is totally unridable due to her back, she hunches her back like a cat and cannot really move under saddle, it is very sad to watch her like this.

She is getting 5* treatment, we have recently strted lunging in the pessoa to get her to use her back end properly, her progress is being kept slow as she has had to build condition and is building muscle again.

I dont know what the ridden future holds for Delicia, and i am heartbroken to have lost a competitive future on her. But she is more then a horse, she is my horse. My horse of a lifetime. The vets are very positive she will come back as a happy hacker, and i am thrilled at this.

I understand in the past i havent had the best rep on here. Time away has taught me a lot of things about life, and i appologise to anyone i upset on here. I hope i can mark a new chapter in my life here, and that people can forgive past indescretions.

Delicia has made me shed a lot of tears lately, but i will fight for her to the ends of the earth. I know in my heart of hearts she will come back good, but due to the fact i wont risk an operation on her, it will be a management of her issues, rather then a cure.

And dee? She couldnt be happier. She is still the cheeky and loveable horse she has always been. Her temperament and kindness as shone through and melted the hearts of everyone at the vets when she was going through her ordeal.

It is not the end of the world that i will never compete dee again, i think she has been telling me for a while something isnt right, and i have known for a while, but nothing was massively bad untill suddenly she went downhill.

This is dee today

I hope this is a new chapter, me and Dee has a long way to go, but we will get there, together.

Hi BH! I'm glad to see you back, I used to enjoy your D updates so am pleased you have returned but I'm sorry that it's not under happier circumstances :( No advice, just to say I hope D stays comfortable and happy, rideable or not, and glad to see you back here!:)

I was thinking of you both the other day. I didn't really take much notice of what went on before and am just a lurker, I just enjoyed your Dee updates. I can see that she means the world to you and that's all that matters. Hope you enjoy your time back on here, all the best.

I cant offer any advice but I wanted to say its so lovely to see a thread where you just know the horse will be ok no matter what

I know we haven't always seen eye to eye, but I am sorry to hear this about Delicia. On the other hand, I am sure you will give her an amazing non-competitive life, and know you will have a great team of vets advising you on the best route forwards.

Delicia gets better treatment then i do! 10 weeks ago i prolapsed 2 discs in my spine, resulting in a weeks stay at hospital (in a private room so i cant really complain ;) ). Both Delicia and I are on rehab programmes - hers is being taken more seriously ;)

Sorry to hear about poor Dee's issues, and whilst I can't comment on the SI and suspensory issue, I would just mention that in the summer my big girl was diagnosed with 3 processes slightly closer than normal (although no actual impingement or arthritis) and with injections and has been rehabbed with the pessoa etc since, and is now back competing at BN and Disc. She seemed to start to struggle in the summer so we had the vet, and since the jabs she has gone from being a tense, bunched up, un-schoolable harpy back to a happy relaxed mare in the school. I firmly believe that if the issue isn't too bad, a very strong topline may be your best option. JMO though, and good luck with whatever you decide! D will have beautiful babies anyway :)

Welcome back :D

Shame to read about Dee but great that she is getting treatment fingers crossed that it all works for her and that she continues to gain weight xx

Thank you, she is on an all fibre diet, three feeds a day, ad lib hay and linseed - its working a treat :)

She will still be spoilt. I had to sell her competition gear the other day as there is no point hanging onto it. It was very sad, i did a bit like ripping off a plaster, Supposed to be quick and painless. It wasnt :(

No advice, just lots of hugs.

Thank you :)

Nice to see you back but sorry to hear the news - keeping everything crossed for both you and your beautiful girl x

She has the best of care at the moment and a fab team of people working on her. I *think* she will come back to ridden work. Being reviewed at the end of the month of see how she goes.

How sad. I think if a horse starts to play up it is always saying it hurts or I dont understand. I hope it works out for you

Indeed, i knew when it became all the time something was up. The last hack i went out on her she was dangerous, when i tried to pat her neck to sooth her she squeeled and i was stuck in a forest on a horse who was rearing, bolting and running backwards. I knew she wasnt being bad i just knew something was wrong. :(

Dee will have lovely babies :) I think i've annoyed everyone asking 'Are you sure its not heretiary?!' :). I am lucky in that respect she is a mare.

I am happy just to have a plod about on her. Shes looking quite good on the pessoa at the moment, fingers crossed she will come good. :) Everyone has been so kind to us lately, its been truely lovely.

I am really sorry to hear about Dee. I hope she surprises all the vets and makes a much better recovery than expected.

Me too. It answers a lot of questions and for ages i felt a real pang of guilt that i attributed her bad behaviour to naughtiness :(

Poor Dee, I hope she improves and good news that they think she will still be able to hack, she is such a beautiful girl I could look at her all day!

She can be a cow to hack ;)

Having said this, shes walked in hand 30mins a day, goes out in the sand pit twice a day and lunged daily, she seems a calmer horse (still bucks and farts though at times). Maybe she will calm down now shes not in pain? Who knows.

I hope she responds well. She has a good head start in having a caring owner.

Thank you :)

My mare had injections in her hock a year ago and shockwave on her back and then tildren (hock) about 2 months ago. She has responded very well to it. Hope yours does too :)

She seems to be, but the real tell will be undersaddle as the lameness was very apparent then :)

Good to see you back although shame it isn't for a different reason :( I've always loved following your posts about Dee. Sounds like she's in fantastic hands for her recovery :)

Well, nice to have you back, and she is looking gorgeous as ever. I would say to what went on in the past s*d them all, who cares. Even if she is never ridden again, I know she has a forever home, and just think of all the fun you will have on the coloured 'relative', that you will have in the future.

I cant get excited yet, but shes booked in w/ the vets to have everything that needs to be done, done :)

I am mostly a lurker here but used to enjoy your updates on Dee and I was wondering how you both were. Sorry to hear this news but it seems you are being very positive and I hope Dee comes good so you can enjoy some lovely hacks together!

Sorry to hear your news but I'm sure you've made the best decision about rehab for her. I hope you both make a good recovery.

Im being guided by my vet and chiropractor because i still feel quite blind at the moment, its all new to me, but so far so good.

Hello darling girl.

I can confirm that Dee is as cuddly and as beautiful as ever.

xxxx

Indeed! She had a lovely ear rub earlier, was thinking how were you just yesterday :)

Aw thank you. :) Dee and i have a long future ahead of us. Lucky the legs arent too bad, main issue is her spine (the vets confirmed this as well). I think the tendons are just general wear and tear for a 10 year old horse but i have nothing to compare them too.
