My freind has a shetland with whom he's keen on getting it broken in and to drive with.
Just wandering how easy it is to break in a shetland for this job?

Any tips or advice welcome

is there anywhere nottinghamshire/leicestershire/debyshire that provide a service for breaking in to drive?

Alll replies much appreciated :)

Probably depends on the pony! My friend tried for years to break her shettie to drive but he kept taking off!
Ours, on the other hand i tried long reining for the first time recently (he's 5) and he was like an old pro.
Interesting project Good luck with it! x

The ones I've known have all taken to it brilliantly - I've done part of the preparation with our lot, and they've all been easy and taken to it like ducks to water.

As a breed they're usually fairly laid back & brave, so should be good to break to drive.

I think the key is in doing enough of all the basic preparations, and not being tempted to skimp or rush ahead before the pony is ready.

Brill thanks for your replies...

Some positives there , im looking abit more forward to helping with the shetland project now.
He has done no work as of yet, but is very good to lead and listens to commands such as stand/ walk on and back.
Has been lunged once in the blue moon by the owner, so will get him on the lunge this weekend and see what we have got.
