So have taken the plunge and bought a pair of long riding boots, question is how best to break them in, they are pretty snug round my calves at the moment but aren't soft or rounded so not surprised there.

But is there anything other than wearing them all the time to get them broken in?

You can rush the breaking in process a little by wearing them in a hot bath or shower & keeping them on until they are dry.
If you don't want to risk that just lots & lots of wearing.

Yep. I wasn't brave enough to do it with my comp boots but a friend swears by it.
Personally I'd just wear them loads (I wore mine to work under my trousers :D )

Rub in either some beeswax for leather, or horsemans one step leather conditioner, and wear them.

I walked round the house and drove in my new boots. Took about four weeks if doing this, with the odd bit of riding in them, for them to truly soften them.

I would be very reluctant to submerge my brand new boots! Take your time with them, they will break in eventually.

I've been wearing my new boots with my civvies, they looked luverly with my knitted grey dress, and great with leggings and a tunic, I did this because it meant I could wear them for lots of hours in the day rather than just the relatively few in comparison spent riding to get them to drop quicker. And they smelled good ;)

I may be driven to try this. I have a pair of Toggi ones which are instruments of torture. I've tried everything else, if it fails they're hitting the bin.
