hi, I have a home bred 3yr old, who is now ready to be broken. She was my first breeding attempt and now my first producing attempt. So i want to do it right and think i need help with the initial ground work and sit on so i know it is done properly. I am based in Lancashire and am looking for a good breaking yard to help me. I have no qualms in sending he away for a few weeks if need be, but would like whoever does help to be able to come to my yard and help me for follow up so to speak. I have never used this forum before but a friend said it gives really good advice. So hear i am asking for some recommendations for where is a good place to send my little girl. I am worried about sending to some of the bigger yards as they seem to be treated like cattle sometimes. All advice and recommendations greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi, do you have a regular instuctor, or someone who can help you with him on the ground? I only ask as I bought a youngster to start myself a few years ago and my instuctor helped me back him (I wanted to do it myself so sending him away wasn't really an option). It was helpful because after he'd got to the stage where he was being ridden away she could hop on him and school him or give me a quick lesson on him, which was great because she knew the horse. Also, financially speaking this is a cheaper way to do it even if you send him away after he's being lunged with tack on.

I can highly recommend SAMgirl on here... She has been working my rising 6 year old for me while I have been unable to ride and has backed stallions, mares etc.

David Rimmer at The Banks, Southport way.

A lovely, intuitive rider who is not heavy handed or bullying. He did a great job of my very quirky horse and also came and gave me lessons after.

There's Sam and Peter Borthwick at Model Farm in Crosby, and another vote for David Rimmer, there's also John Leigh near Lowton.

is john leigh the guy off the east lancs? if so its him i've thinking of that i would use if i got another one unbacked...a lot of the pro sjers use him

i did my horse myself...probably wouldn't do it again. found it quite boring really once the initial sit on was done and dusted....would rather pay someone else to get projectiled onto the floor- mine was especially bad to back though, much worse than anything i've had to do before for other people

Yes thats him :-)
Must admit I know plenty of people well capable of backing their own horses who send them to him just because it's easier and he will send you back a horse that can walk trot and canter on both reins usually within 4 weeks. No gimmick, just good horsemanship :)

hi, i can highly recommend Lucy from Blackburn, she is my instructor, takes horses for breaking and schooling. She took my horse to be re schooled and now still comes to give me lessons. I also know of 3 or 4 owners who have sent her breakers and have been over the moon with results. Its only a small yard so you wouldn't have to worry about being treated like cattle!! :D

Hi sorry for the fact it has taken me a while to give my 'verdict' lol, I went with LWEquine, Its a girl called Lucy she is based in Altham on a small private yard. My mare was there 4 weeks and came back fantastic i am very please with the results and am still having follow up lessons every now and agen to keep me on the right track with her. She came back more confident and trusting, working a forward balanced outline, no nervousness over a rider. I had a ride on her before i brought her home and climbed straight on off an overturned jump block and she did not flinch! She lunges great and has a soft mouth. i would definitely recommend her.
Sandra
P.S was very reasonable price.
this is the website for her for those people that have asked who I went with in the end:
