Hey everyone. I wanted to thank all you guys for offering advice to me when I was injured with my hip and couldn't ride. It was a tough time - I thought I would have to sell my mare because she was being so difficult to handle and I was terrified to lead her down the lane let alone get on her. This was even after my injury. Brick by brick , day by day am now hacking and schooling her happily, and have even started jumping - a far cry from my insecure unconfident self before. I went right back to basics, led her lots till I was confident. Even just in the school. Then lunged her every evening - at first this terrified me - buck rear etc. But I just kept my head on and stood up to her everytime she challenged me. Often just singing and laughing everytime she did it - like dare you, come on then type thing. She was so shocked she stopped doing it. Then I joined up with her some weeks later. By now she was already starting to lose some of her weight and looking much healthier. Meantime I was back riding at college - even jumping horses there - and I thought to myself some of the horses at college more feisty than her so what was there to lose? I got on her rode her in the indoor school, just walk for the first few days. It was so nice to sit on her again, I had forgotten just how wonderful she is to ride her. Amidst my problems, I'd forgotten everything I loved about her. Why I bought her in the first place. Then trotting lots and cantering, now we are confidently doing lots of pole work and some small jumps. It was funny when I first asked her into canter - she wouldn't go, it was only when I had the confidence to growl at her and urge her on with a little tap she went. It was almost like she was telling me to be confident. I like to think now it was a mixture of you guys on here, her getting me fit and well again (I still have images of me hopping down the lane - determined to keep her active and myself), and college helping me lots with my confidence.

Sorry for self-indulgent post but am already planning what shows we are going to do

Thanks again guys xx

What a lovely story =) Wishing you further success - congratulations for having the self confidence to believe in yourself and trust your mare, it really has paid off
