I posted ages ago, probably end of last summer, about loosing left canter. I was practicing for an ele class and managed to do an unprompted flying change which resulted in us loosing left canter and throwing in flying changes all over on the left rein. I gave up with lessons as no one seemed to be able to help me. We turned to hacking, Working equitation, which we live, and franklin ball lessons. I haven't ' schooled' since the beggining of the year. I booked a lesson at the end of the month so thought I'd better get in the school a few times. Right canter is fabulous, he just floats. Left canter on a circle is fine, it's just when I try and go straight. The first couple of sessions we got flying changes again but I was doing what I've been doing that doesn't work but I was still hoping!! Anyway, this morning I took a different approach. I've been very much riding with little leg and he has been going really well. So into left canter we went, no leg, and I literally just looked over my left shoulder , pretty much looking backwards, and he floated down the school, no hint of changing legs!! Big pat and called it a day!!! Really hoping this is the light bulb moment I need to get us going again!

Well done that’s lovely. I sometimes think mine is better not doing much schooling. I just do some walk and trot lateral work for suppleness and a couple of canter circles couple of times a week.

That's pretty much what I do when we actually get I the school!! He is 17 now, ex NH so has had a busy life. I'm conscious of his joints in the school. Like you I just try to keep him supple.
