Hi

Looking for a elastic breastplate and came across Bell Busk make! has anyone used them before - what is quality like?

Also what are the main differences between all the various modles, 5 point, hunting, elastic breastgirth etc. All a bit confusing form a few years ago when there was only one option?????

thanks guys

ok, 5 point breastplates like these : http://www.totally-tack.co.uk/acatalog/5_point_breastplate_english_leather.html are mainly used in eventing for xc as evens pressure out and stops saddle slipping. Your showjumping breastplate mainly just fits around the horses chest like : http://www.totally-tack.co.uk/acatalog/457G_shires_equestrian_continental_elastic_breastgirth.html or you can use a hunting breastplate : http://www.sallystackshop.co.uk/Shop.aspx?id=160&t=Hunting Breastplate&r=&rb=0&ret=?p=home for dressage if your saddle slips. Hope this helps

Hi thanks for response.
I suppose I am looking for a little more info as to why you would choose one over the other, I understand the idea of the 5 point ones can dispearse the pressure more.

Would one be better than another if you have a large shouldered horse for example?

Is one better if you have a high withered horse?

all a lot of choice to be honest.

Quite fancy an elastic one going back to the D rings- as have read a few posts where the 5 points are a bit restricting the shoulders! Unsure if this is the general feeling and most people may wear them to be in 'fashion'

oops shot down for that remark ;-D

xx

What do you want the breastplate for? To use in what disapline? I use my 5point for hacking (as we do lots of hill work and lots of cantering), xc and some times jumping and is good for my big shouldered boy. I use the elastic one I think your talking about for sj on my youngster as saddle does some times move around as hes changing shape. I dont use the 5point on the baby for sj as need to be able to move his shoulders around, but will use it for hacking. Personally I would only use a hunting style breastplate for dressage as you want as much movement through their shoulders as poss, ( thats if you need one!!)
