I've had a fantastic weekend at a local adult riding camp, I wasn't sure we'd make it last week with both horses coughing, but the improved weather and 24 hour turnout seemed to do the trick.

We had our first real xc schooling session and Ryu was a superstar jumping everything and yesterday on his second session went like a pro. In the morning we had indoor jumping and he was broncing a bit, the instructor recomended I get something to hold onto and I must admit I borrowed a friends breastplate when I went hunting for extra security, hopefully we'll do a few days hunting again and have a crack at the hunter trails in the autumn so it seems woth investing in my own, so good recomendations please.

A hunting breastplate is slightly cheaper in price or just a standard breastplate they use for hunting will be adequate

I bought a breastplate to hang onto over jumps - they are quite expensive generally but I bought a Kinkade one quite cheaply. The leather isn't too bad if you oil it and it has a martigale attachment and is definatly OK for holding onto

I found that if you hang onto a neckstrap or martigale when the horse has its head down (as in my cob falling over the jump) the strap just goes down the neck as well and doesn't offer enough support

Mark todd hunter breastplates are nice for a normal breatplate with neckstrap, for a "proper" beastplate the Jeffries competition breastplate is lovely.

I love my balance strap and have a brestplate with martingale attachment XC to hold my saddle but if I get a sticky moment I grab the balance strap first.

I bought a breastplate very cheaply from cotswold sport. Has lasted well over a year, and very good value for the money. Used nearly every time I ride horsey!
