This sounds a really stupid question coming from someone who has worked and owned and ridden all variety of horses for 20 years but how do you fit a breast girth?

I've always come from a showing background and therefore have no idea on breast girths. I know it goes from d ring to d ring but how tight or loose should you have it? Is there an actual way to fit it or is it a bit trial and error with your particular horse?

edited to add I can fit a breast plate but never used a breast girth. Please excuse title fingers were going faster than brain!

i'm so glad i'm not alone! It's a tad scary isn't it that these things come without instructions and even the well known tack shop couldn't help me! Can I find it on the web, no, only how to fit western breast collars, not very helpful.

I'll pop this in stable yard too as it will sit there longer and I've just noticed it's the forum for tack. I've just got a horsewear breast girth and really like it, no too expensive either if you can put up with green!

Your correct d-rings go to d rings. I always find it helpful, to hang the tack up and see how it lies naturally and that's the way you equate it to the horse. You should find that there is one strap with a larger whole than the others and this should go between the chest and connect to loop through the girth.

Hope this helps..

Sorry if I am sucking eggs here..
