I’ve been rehabbing my allrounder mare from a strained right hind suspensory due to hock arthritis. She was doing brilliantly and was just a week away from introducing canter work out hacking... so close ? Anyway all was going well until she suddenly went lame last week while I was schooling some large circles in trot with her in the field. Over where the vets had clipped and scanned her suspensory, I can now presume she’d caught herself as it had been marked and swelled up over the few days following. Thankfully she’s a lot better and happier now but I’m looking into getting her a pair of hind boots to prevent this happening again. I was thinking XC boots as they cover more of the hind leg but also am worried about breathability. I’m paranoid about weakening her ligaments by the excessive heat from boots. Should I treat this as a one time accident and leave her without them? Or should I boot up and what make of boots would offer the most amount of breathability while also covering more than the standard brushing boot. Sorry this is rambly! Thank you for your help x
