Breathing problems with Probed rape straw bedding

I have been using probed for a few months. I get quite wheezy when I add fresh bedding and for a day or so afterwards whilst mucking out. My horses have also begun to cough, no snotty noses or runny eyes, just a dry cough.I am slowly coming to the conclusion that we might all be allergic to either the rape straw itself or the eucalyptus oil they treat it with. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has a similar problem.
 
It was not Probed, but was another manufacturer using Rape Straw, it made a lot of us wheezy at work, and we had to resort to dust masks. Some of the horses became snotty too.

I think it may depend on how well it is dust extracted, as we moved to another manufacturer, and it was a lot better. You could really see the dust rise with the first type.
 
This is interesting as when I got my horse about 3 months ago he was on rape straw bedding. After 4 days on it he had sore, swollen weepy eyes. We gave him antihistamines and it did get slightly better. We had the vet out the next day who diagnosed uveitis as his eyes were so bad. I have since found put he has pollen allergies that cause his eyes to weep and swell so am hoping the uveitis was a misdiagnosis. He also had a slight reaction if I change brand of shavings. It wad a different brand of straw bedding to the one you used .
 
I use probed for my horse and have done for 2years but in the past 2 months or so I've noticed I cough when I put a new bag down and become a bit wheezy.
Flynn has also had issues with his eyes and rubbing his face.
Now starting to wonder if it's his bedding .....
 
We are also having breathing problems with ProBed. I can't go near it and my wife has had an awful cough for 2 years, I kept telling her it was ProBed but she wouldn't listen, until today that is.
 
I've just swapped over to Probed from Aubiose. I'm just mixing new bedding into the old rather than starting afresh and am only two bales in but haven't noticed any problems so far in either me or my horse. I did used to cough when spreading a new bale of Aubiose though! We're in a very open stable but I can imagine the eucalyptus smelling very strong if your stable is more enclosed so maybe that's it. Definitely keen to hear about other people's experiences though as horse and me are both allergy prone.
