Well set off with very dark skies and rather windy so packed the jeep full of waterproofs
crazy.gif
But luckily it wasn't too bad at the event, it threatened to rain up until Id just finished my XC where it started a bit. All classes were pretty big with 40ish in each of the 3 intro sections (they did ballot).

Anyway, was Welsh Cobs second intro. He'd done one XC since September and they didnt have a water! So I was worried about the water simply because he'd only just started to get used to it late last year - there turned out to be THREE waters
shocked.gif
But otherwise whilst walking the course, I thought it was quite a beefy intro and a twisty course.

So dressage first - As usual I got myself worked up in the warm up. I hate dressage, I mean really really hate it purely because I get myself in such a state over it! I tense up as soon as I get in the ring which means we never get scores I know we are perfectly capable of. I do need to address it... Anyway, horsey tried hard given mummy was riding like a board of wood and we did have some nice moments. We got 35.3.

SJ was causing a lot of problems. I saw about 4 eliminations
crazy.gif
Not sure what the problem was as the course wasn't big at all. Although they did have a spooky filler as fence 1 which seemed harsh for an intro... I was more worried he'd spook at the flappy stalls round the ring, but he went really well and clear.

XC, saw 3 loose horses - 2 of which galloped through the lorry park. I really didnt know how he'd go. He has very limited XC experience and it was far more beefy than his last intro. Was also worried about the time as he isnt the fastest by any means due to his build! He started off well, although over number 2 I got cramp all down the back of my lower leg (I get it sometimes) which was so painful and I was having trouble keeping my stirrup!! So num 3 was messy and num 4 we did from a stand still
shocked.gif
and I almost fell off but it did sort the cramp! The next few he was jumping a bit dodgily - he hasnt learnt to jump out of his stride yet so feels he has to show jump the last few strides and then leaps WAY too high over them which loses a lot of time and its very hard to get a rythm. Waters were no problem at all
smirk.gif
He came back with a clear, but sadly 9.6 time
frown.gif
He came 15th overall, would have been 5th if got the time. But was so pleased with him for the double clear. He tried so hard. Im sure the time will come, he got 12 pens last time so it is better this time. We left at 3pm so not sure how the rest of the day went! How did everyone else do???

Well done for the double clear
grin.gif
I believe cramp is salt related but can't remember if its too much or too little sorry.
Sections down south are 42 nearly all the time do you usually have smaller ones?
Well done again
cool.gif

Aww you must be so pleased with him, I saw him at the trailer afterwords having a good snooze:) I saw your show jumping and I must say your round was a hell of a lot more stylish than mine, Keats took a stride out at the first and zoomed off with me over the rest!
We did a double clear as well with our best ever BE dressage of 32.6 BUT we got loads of time too
frown.gif
8.8 so I'm kicking myself over that, I went too slow down the hills before the water that must be where I lost the time. Still came 4th but I could have afforded about 3 time faults and I still would have won
frown.gif
My section wasn't as good as the others though, the person that won got 35.something. Bring on scone PN next weekend. Just have to replicate today at PN (without the time faults pref!)
Are you taking Tinto to scone?

Saf - Maybe we do have 40ish in lower classes up here. I usually do novices with my other horse which are usually smaller. Salt intake causes cramp? Ooh I didnt know that, will look into it coz its BLOODY sore yet I only get it occassionally and only when jumping if I put my right heel up.

RiaSeed - You did so well coming 4th! I can see why your bummed about the time as well though. Its so annoying when all it pins on is how fast your horse is! We also trotted down the 2 steep hills, Im not going to scare my one by careering down them into water! Yeah, its all luck which section you're in, the winner of my class had 21 I believe!!

Yep, Scone next week with Tinto. Just hoping weathers ok as it can be horrid there otherwise. You Sat or Sun? We're Sunday.

Yeah I didn't want to bomb down those hills and come to a grinding stop and me go over the handlebars into the water as I've done before!
smile.gif

I've asked for saturday times but if I get put on sunday that's ok as well, was hoping for sat as should get the best of the ground. It was awful there at scone 2 last year, ground was like a bog and felt sorry for those not getting a run on the sunday. Hopefully the weather will be better this time though.
What's your plans with cool dude Shadow now? Gonna do a few more intros soon?

Yeah, PN runs both days doesnt it? I think it says novice runs only on the sunday. But maybe Im wrong, I dont know! Last year I was on the sat so luckily got to compete before it was abandoned that night!

Yeah, Shadow'll do a couple more intro's this year. Its hard trying to balance it. I cant take both (did at Aswanley and Shadow smashed up the trailer...) and Tinto is reg so it makes more sense for him to get most runs. Shadows going to do the Burgie 3 day unaffiliated one though - you doing that? Tinto'll do either the 1 day Novice OR the 1* if Im extremely brave feeling!!

I looked out for both of you but missed you! Well done to you both.

We had an interesting day. My heart sank when I walked the xc when I saw the 3 waters as that's the thing we have the biggest issue with at the moment (it's only our 4th run xc ever).

His dressage was fab and I was over the moon to get 27.9.

I totally mucked up my sj. Alfie was jumping beautifully and then some demon took me over and I took out a couple of strides here and there and paid the price by tipping a few poles.

Xc he was just brilliant at and we were clear. However, we were on our summer holidays paddling through the water and I didn't hammer him down the steep hills as I don't want to knock his confidence so early on, so picked up time faults.

Still delighted with him and looking forward to Scone on Saturday (assuming we can get fuel for the wagon!). Must try and find you both this time!

well done on your DC, a v good day.!
re getting the time, it sounds like your boy is still green so i wouldn't worry too much about that at the moment, once he is more confident and jumping out of his stride you will find it much easier to get the time.!!
and re salt intake, muscle cramp can be due to lack of sodium so unless you have high blood pressure or a family history of it make sure you are getting your RDA of salt in your diet.!!
good luck for your next event
smile.gif

Wow Noodlejaffa what a fab dressage! I only get scores like that in my dreams!
I wouldn't stress too much about the time, looking at the results very few people didn't get time faults and loads of people were getting over 20! It is annoying though cause I've never had time faults before when I haven't had a crappy xc round, oh well never mind. Well done on clear xc though and getting through 3 waters in one round is surely a good experience for them. He certainly looks like he's having fun splashing about in the photo!
Is your horse called The mighty Imp? I'll look out for you at Scone too
smile.gif

Noodlejaffa - I heard your name a few times when you were XC'ing but didnt see you either! Lovely horse in the pic, is this your new one? Yeah re: fuel, I made sure I filled up last night for Scone!

Was it just Peak photography there yesterday? Thought I saw some other pro dude walking around the SJ...?

AandK - Totally agree, he is still green hence the dodgy jumps here and there. Im sure we'll make the time eventually! Ill have to have some salted crips before riding from now on then
wink.gif

riaseed007 - Yes, his posh name's The Mighty Imp (very apt!). We're fairly easy to spot. He's as white as white can be, with a pink nose.

Magic_Magpie - in a way, yes this is my new one, but I've since acquired two more since he arrived at the end of last year!!
shocked.gif
They're both babies, though, so not quite ready to BE yet.

Bloody hell Noodlejaffa, you're collecting then! 3 horses will be a lot to BE :P Hows your little grey getting on in his new home? He was so cute. Oh, and I agree with RiaSeed - only in my dreams would I get such a ridiculous dressage dress score!

Not collecting, just acquiring..!

I've a four/five year old coming through who is a bit of a brute but should be fab once we get through the 'toddler' stage with him. His paces are fab! And my other one's a mare I picked up last week who's only 3 and standing at 16.1hh already. Meant to be for my husband eventually (his 17.1hh hunter's 16 now) but I'm riding her meanhwile...would love to BYEH her next year. She's got fab movement (Selle Francais).

My wee grey's been registered BE by his new owner (she's only 16) and he should be taking her round a few BE courses in Yorkshire soon. She sends me regular updates so it's great to hear he's being loved to bits by her.

Well done to you all. Sounds like a good day was had by all. On the cramp thing, it is normally associated with a shortage of potassium, or an imbalance of sodium/potassium. Normally sorted by using some Lo-Salt (potassium Chloride) as well as normal table salt(sodium Chloride). Also a good cure for twitchy legs.

Good luck at Scone!

I'm at the top of that page of photos, but the pics are awful!! Your ones are great! Very much the eventer!

Good luck on Sunday. Hope the weather's going to be okay. We've had horrendous rain the last couple of days and the ground is saturated. Was doing my canter work out last night in the middle of a thunderstorm
