Breeches colour at BE, rule amendment.

God I can just imagine the emails flying backwards and forwards in BEHQ about the colour tones of breeches. We have a colour committee (a totally ridiculous committee) at college and wonder if this is needed at BE!!

Perhaps so, my cream breeches are quite old now and have faded, I hope they are not classed as white  I need a colour chart like you get in B&Q :o

Oh FGS... What a total waste of time, and a clear as mud result too.
And why have they decided to do this after I'd got my new breeches in ivory instead of white for fear of being eliminated...

I cannot believe that people have actually been pulled up for this at events, let alone eliminated! Why has more of a fuss not been made?

I have several pairs of generic beige/yellow/buff breeches which I wear with everything from tweed, to black jacket (IN upwards only BE, occasionally BS/BD) to navy tailcoat. I will never wear white. Ever.

I have made a HUGE fuss to BE and have probably been one the main instigators of this rule change!

I could not believe when they told us on the day but the steward was having none of it despite us saying we had competed ( and won and been placed) at other events whilst wearing white and nothing had been said. She was a right cow bag.

Absolutely, at least BE are trying to do something to clear up the confusion and stop people from being ridiculously officious! Shame they haven't got it absolutely 100% right yet...
I'd never wear white, far too unflattering... but you'd be amazed to hear that apparently "white breeches are more 'Professional looking' because top riders such as Piggy and William always wear white..." Hmmmm.

Good for you. sounds as if someone got very very carried away on a power trip... :( :( :(

I am thrilled (;)) that BE has decided to clarify this - oh no wait, they still haven't have they

I am less thrilled that they feel it an important enough issue to spend time and effort sorting out (that is staff time being paid for by us, The Membership), instead of sorting out other, far more important issues.

I am also saddened that an event organiser (or was it the Steward provided by BE?) felt the need to eliminate low level, amateur competitors for something that is purely 'visual' as opposed to something that could affect the health and safety or performance of horse and rider.

Come on BE - GET A GRIP!

mad as a box of cats!!!

I don't compete BE as I live in Ireland but that is just daft, I wear beige and that's that. So if I were to ever compete over there would I not be allowed to wear beige breeches with a navy coat?? I thought that was correct???

it is! beige/buff/ivory/cream/taupe/whatever is fine with tweed or dark coat.
it's only WHITE that there was a problem with!

So what if I wear a light coloured / cream stock with my beige breeches and tweed as I have seen soooooooo many people do (I don't actually but was considering it as I need a new coloured stock) - will I risk elimination or is it just certain dress code rules that can be broken?

The most barking mad part of all of this is that the overly-officious person who tried to E jess_asterix and others already had a rule to use which did not involve E anyone! It's a simple 2 point penalty for minor breaches of dress code, just in case anyone cared enough, so they should perhaps have known the rules and worked in the spirit of them rather than their interpretation of the letter of them. After all, we as competitors are asked to do the same are we not?

I've spent the past god knows how many seasons with a cream stock and tweed jacket because I could not find a coloured one I liked enough. Now I have a white with tiny blue spots one - do we think I will get penalised for it not being coloured enough?!

I can't believe anyone involved with running a BE event had so much time on their hands that they thought this was worth worrying about in the first place. I take it every other aspect of the organisation and running of the event J_A was at was 100% correct, by the book and there were no dramas of any kind then, in order to allow someone to even conceive of implementing this rule?!

I wear a blue/white spotted stock with my blue jacket will that also mean the big E!!!!!!!!:(

Some people have a real downer on BE here!! A problem arose on Sunday, apparently caused by someone being very literal in interpreting the rules. By the following Friday, the rule has been amended. I wish other organizations would react so quickly and sensibly - personally, I think 5 days is a fantastic response in altering a rule. I also think you'll find the BE statement has been updated removing any confusion.

Lighten up, it's Friday!!!!

I have to say 10/10 to BE for clearing up the confusion over the rule. After all it's something that often gets asked/discussed on here so can only help people to have it clarified. And, yes you can say there are more important issues out there but I really can't imagine it took them more than minutes to discuss and implement the ruling.

Those who queried stock colour it does say quite clearly that it must be white with navy/black and a coloured stock or tie with tweed.

OMG NOOOOOOO, because that would open the door to 'baby pink' and 'baby blue' breeches. OldGit would be there in baby blue with subtle hoops, you can bet your life... and as for pink breeches, words fail me.
Please no. Please please please. ;) ;)

I was a fence judge at an unaffilated event and an adult went past with pink polka dot jods on - I wanted to give an error of course for it......

It goes without saying that whites should never be worn with tweed, however *light coloured breeches* also should mean cream, beige, etc...or would adults REALLY wear *colours* to do dressage and SJ? FWIW any colour goes XC, each to their own and, quite frankly, it is far easier to hide mud stains with coloured breeches than light! Plenty of people go XC in coloured breeches already...including t_e ;)
