Hi All

Sorry for the long post!

I'm looking for decent quality breeches not more than about £70, trying out breeches as I have very short legs and always end up cutting a good few inches off jods. I'm 5'4, UK size 12, 30/30 in topshop jeans for example, bigger hips/bum, smaller waist. Looking for something high waisted, definitely not "hipster style" as doesn't suit. From reading some of the discussions on here, I've whittled it down to Equetech (HW Snaffle or HW Denim) or HKM (Majestic Alos or Miss Blink). I've always previously bought jods and always a size 28. I still fit into my shabby size 28 jods (the makes are Just Togs and Saddlecraft, not the best ever I know!) but to complicate matters, last week I tried on Shires Ladies Denim Saddlehugger Breeches in a 30 and Derby House Kensington Denim Breeches in a 30 and couldn't get either comfortably on! Both are supposedly to fit a size 12 :( I've had my jods back this week so I'm not sure if I picked styles/brands that are small on sizing, if the material is different or because my jods have worn in a bit.

Given that big rant, could anyone please recommend what size to go for in either of these two brands or any others they would recommend? Hoping someone in a similar situation has had better luck than I have!

Thanks in advance, it's much appreciated :)

I always get a 28 and I think I'm pretty much the same shape and size (just an inch taller- but I have to get size 14 jeans). I find 30 too loose and 28 slightly tight, but I hate when they feel like they're moving around! MY Shires ones are size 28, so maybe its that particular style?

Ax

I've always found equetech true to size or slightly generous and a nice cut but Shires seem to be made for the most peculiar body shape, saggy on the legs (pretty spectacular given my generous calves!) tight in the middle and loose on the waist just pure weird!

I never understand the logic of jodphur sizing. I buy a 28' in childrens jodphurs (I know it's not top of the range but I usually get mine from Robinsons or Harry Hall! Have 2 nice pairs of Horseware ones for competing though) and I'm 4'11 and wear a size 8-10 in jeans/trousers! I have got a couple of 26' but they are a hipster fit. Anything smaller than a 28' and I feel like I can't breathe and I have a tiny waist! I really don't understand the fit on them, only reason I stick with Robinsons is because I know how they fit and trust them. The last for ages too, brilliant quality for the money :)

Thank you for your replies so far!

Amiee - what style of Shires do you have? Are they jods or breeches?

Shooting Star - I do wonder if the style of the Shires breeches just doesn't fit me as even the 30 wasn't comfortable at all!

Acorn - It really is confusing, seems like it's quite normal for people to jump sizes on different brands but that's not much good when you're ordering online and not able to try on! I'll have a look at Robinsons!

Try rugged breeches they are pretty true to size. Nicer than your Harry hall types but cheaper than pikuer!

Ariat Olympia in the sales fall in your range and are again true to size.

Pikeur if eBay hunting come up big so drop a size.

I've just started wearing rugged ones and really like them and really good value considering quality true to size and high waist

Thanks :) What size of Rugged did you order vs your usual size? I would normally order 28/12 but my local shop are showing these as 28/14? I wonder if they are taking into consideration the 'generous' fit and I should still order 28?

I'm a size 10 with a reasonable sized bottom and I wear a 26 waist I can get the waist over my bottom but it's not generous but then they are snug and comfy around my waist and fitted round my bottom that I don't feel uncomfortable when in the saddle

Yes I agree, Rugged are true to size. Eileen Douglas breeches tend to have small waists and bigger legs. Might be worth trying?

I'm a pear shape as well, and the only britches/jods that I can get to fit are Dublin Supafit ones. I've tried all sorts of others on, but can't find anything else that fits.
