Breed recommendations

What about a Swedish Vallhund, less drivey than a kelpie but perfectlycapable of doing sports, portable size, easy to train and want to work with you and less bitey than a cattle dog.
Sorry, only just seen this.

Yes, I did actually stumble over these last night while in search of Corgis that aren't really short and really long. Another breed I had forgotten about, and I couldn't remember who had posted about getting/owning one. How old is yours now? Had you had one before or is your current one your first experience of the breed?

Fen is two now. We've taken things really slowly with him sports wise but he just did his first kc agility comp (second ever) and is competing in beginners flyball competitions.

He was our first Vallhund but we've know his breeder for 8 years or so. I'll be honest, we were under no illusions about what we were getting. I'd had Corgis previously but I hate the shape of them now and wanted something which was fit for function.

He's been the easiest to train (to be fair I'd had the Corgis, then moved to sighthounds and our last before him was a true mix who turns out is mostly pomeranian). He genuinely wants to work with me, picks things up so quickly and loves to learn. He is also the hardest work. He nips me when over aroused during sports, will demand bark and needs to be told as opposed to asked.

I absolutely love him and we will 100% have another!

Yeah even the prey driven ones are nowhere near patterdale levels of murderous arseholery 😂

A friend has recently got a puppy, a few months back.

It has a bit of JRT, but is mostly Patterdale.

I've never known anything like it. It's absolutely relentless. The prey drive is beyond anything I have ever seen. Not for the faint hearted, for sure.

Wouldn't be for me. Would very quickly be renamed 'The Twatterdale'

I’ve got a friend with a JRT x Patterdale and she is the most happy, easy, divine little dog.
I would have her in a heartbeat.
I suspect she is a genetic rarity though 😆

Seen Lancashire Heelers mentioned a few times, my mum used to keep and occasionally breed them.
Great little dogs and often very clever too, some do have quite a strong working drive and need to be kept busy, otherwise they can be a bit of a handful.
We also had a couple of shelties many years ago, one was daft as a brush but the other was like the dog version of Einstein, smartest dog I've ever known.
