We have a dog that we got from the breed rescue about 5 or 6 years ago now. She wasn't spayed at the time, that was our responsibility and the rescue didn't give us her KC papers which I presumed was so we didn't try to breed from her. We've recently been doing some research into a potential new puppy's family tree, so I'm now quite curious about how our bitch is bred and most importantly, whether or not her parents tested clear for hereditary diseases. We don't know her registered name or her exact dob, we only have her vaccination record. My parents think the breed rescue will be reluctant to give us any information on the dog, as they apparently said "you're taking this dog, not the dog she was" or something along those lines. Why do breed rescues usually hang on to the papers? Is it worth approaching them anyway? If not, how can I go about getting more info about her?
