I've bees thinking about getting another dog or three for a while now.
I've lost several dogs over the last few years, going from 7 to 3.
I currently have 3 dogs: Honey a 9 year old female welsh springer spaniel, Courantyne a 4yo male Giant Schnauzer and Kursk a 17wo male BRT.
My previous breed experience is with gundogs, Belgians, Dobes and Anatolians but I quite fancy something a bit different.
A new dog needs to be gentle with Honey but also robust enough to handle the others.
It shouldn't be a dog that NEEDS a job in order to be happy, though I do prefer breeds with some working history of some kind.
My dogs get 2hrs moderate intensity exercise per day dispersed with regular hikes. I does not need to be able to do this. I don't want it to be massively energetic but it should be able to tolerate an hr of walking.
It should have a steady/relatively easy going temperament.
I would prefer a larger, possibly even giant, breed though mid size would be fine for the right dog. I've nothing against small dogs they just aren't something I know anything about.
I like a degree of fidelity in my dogs.
I have a mild allergy to dander which is well controlled with antihistamines, I can deal with a moderate amount of shedding but would like to avoid the particularly heavy shredders in case my condition changes or there are problems obtaining the medication. A fluffy GSD would be too much, Spitz breeds are out because for whatever reason their coats tend to be the worst offenders.
No more flock guards, one was enough.
I'm open to rescues but I'm not a fan of cross breeds on account of being a terrible person.
Does anyone have some breed suggestions?
