Breed Thoughts- Help!

I have a wonderful little rescue dog who is a cavalier x dachshund! I wouldn’t actively buy such a crossbreed (I only rescue) but she is legit the best dog we have ever had! She’s 10yo now, no heart murmur yet, no back problems (yet!), can run for miles and is the most loving lapdog.... she’s a bit funny looking! Gorgeous dog I don't think she is funny looking at all!

Another little Roxie update ❤️

She’s already getting the hang of coming to her name, this video was out and about on our walk this morning.

She’s been down the yard again and totally unphased by the horses. Ed still isn’t impressed though 😂

And she had a great time with the broom!

Although I’m not convinced we didn’t buy a cat- her favourite thing is to curl up on your lap.

Hats off for the recall :)

I don't want to be a spoilsport but I would not encourage this. Sorry :(.

She's lovely.

I'd be very wary of letting her getting so close to the horses, though. You seem to think it's funny that your horse doesn't like like her, but in the pic he seems to be unrestrained and within easy puppy splatting distance . Though maybe there's a fence between them that I can't see. And to be additionally boring, I take it that she's had all her jabs, seeing as you're taking her out and about?

Yes she was the other side of the electric and he’s sticking his head through the gap in the middle to say hello. He’s usually very good with dogs so I’m not worried about him really, but am not letting her get right up to him unless She’s picked up.

Yes she’s had all her jabs and all ok to be out and about- wouldn’t have her out otherwise! :)

Just curious as to why you are so against it? Not in a defensive way, just genuinely asking!

Don't know when you give the last puppy jab in the UK, but in Sweden the last jab is at 12 weeks, so at 13 weeks she could already be allowed out and about.

Anyhow, since you said that your horse is used to dogs, I hope that it is just a matter of giving him some time to realize that this is also a dog.

because sweeping the stables/yard becomes impossible when you have (in my case) a terrier who was encouraged to do it as a pup hanging on to the end of it. And they don't quite understand the change in the rules when you actually want to do some sweeping!

Although it is a great game now, I think you will find it a nuisance further down the line. It will be a lot harder to stop once the behaviour becomes established.

Ah that makes sense! 😊 will discourage it going forwards so she doesn’t stick at it for life.

I think he’ll be fine with her eventually as there are dogs on the yard daily :) the breeder got both her sets of jabs done with the last lot at 11 weeks and she’s just shy of 14 weeks so fine to go out.

I’ve only know one Daschund in real life, he’s a lovely little lad. He belonged to someone at my old yard, and I’ll never forget the first time I met him. I could hear a dog barking round the back and getting closer. It was a very deep bark, and I fully expected a big dog like a GSD or a Rottie to come round the corner. I was most surprised when I set eyes on him. Do they all have big barks?

Timbob, he is gorgeous!

I'm not sure about the smaller sizes, but the "large" sized Dachshund I've met, have had a big dog bark. Many Swedish Dachshunds are still used as huntings dogs (at least those of the "largest" size), and I presume the hunters have preferred the Dachshunds with that type of bark.

Awwww I want one now :D:D She is so gorgeous :)
She really is and i want one too, but if i can't have one , neither can you......so there:Dxx

I am sort of regretting teaching my Weim to carry the poo bucket as the other day he thought it would be very helpful if he emptied it of poo first, obviously then did a dance in all of it and then brought me the empty bucket.
He also likes to swim through the straw and i very nearly stabbed him the other day.

My friend's Dash is wonderful with her horses, she has 3 and he just mooches around them quietly,
I sometimes think it's really all about the energy and intent. Iv'e now had 2 Weims and one of my horses hated the first one and would chase him off but absolutely adores the one i have now and they play together. Same breed, colour, size etc but clearly there is something more going on

Luckily rescue greyhounds don't do that sort of thing :p but I do recall a JRT at the yard - someone teased him by kicking a stone for him to chase, then standing on the stone so the dog couldn't get to it? Bloody dog used to yap all day and every day at anyone passing who looked like they might kick a stone for him! Not his fault of course, but it was a good lesson :)

she is lovely, congratulations. is she a standard?

I hate to be the voice of gloom but be very careful allowing her up and then jumping down from things-chairs and the like, ie don't (apologies if you know this already).
And also if you carry her be aware-someone at work had a mini dachs pup when Quarrie was wee, she was carrying him, he wriggled up over her shoulder and jumped off her-two greenstick fractures in the front legs plus a nasty wrench on his neck from the lead.
