Breeders, anyone. Reg papers not shown up. Your advice please.

This is in Canada, but I don't see why, basically it should be much different to the UK.

Long story cut short.........when we bought our GSD over a year ago now the Registration papers were supposed (Ha ha) to follow within 120 days (all this is in our contract) This hasn't happened. Breeder has changed phone number and ignored all emails, letters and phone calls (I found his new one

) Oh, apart from the one where he told me his wife was dying (I have since found out this is total tripe) and he would get on to it straightaway. These Breeders were recommended by friends who have had dogs from them for years with no problems, not some fly by night back yard kennels. I didn't like the idea of no papers at collection but trusted them......and it was in the contract.....silly me.

CKC isn't very helpful either

So.......what to do now? I have an expensive dog that I can't show or breed from (should I so wish, no breeding debates please) a useless contract and am really mad. I could have bought an unreg GSD for a third of the price if I hadn't wanted a papered dog.

I have a litter registration number.......can I register the dog (say I was in the UK for arguments sake) myself with all the details I have?

What comeback would I have from the Breeder......can I demand a refund for breech of contract?

Apart from going up there (about a 2 hour drive) and seeing the people (on the agenda for Friday as we are up there anyway then) what would you do? Advice?
 
I would be very cross. Presumably you bought the dog with breeding rights and as such you will have paid dearly for them! Have you contacted CKC and what did they say? Can you have him registered using DNA instead?

I didn't buy breeding rights with my bitches so wouldn't really have bothered me one way or the other if I hadn't received their papers.
 
CKC are useless, I have phoned and can't get a competent human on the other end, no reply to emails OR a letter. gah! It's a conspiracy.

Yes, we specifically bought the dog with breeding rights, so as you know, they don't come cheaply.

Like you, if I hadn't wanted the breeding option it would not have bothered me one way or another if he had papers or not.

As it is, the dog is here to stay, that isn't the issue, but it is the principal of the thing that gets me!

I have just found out now that it isn't just me, but all puppies from 2006 haven't been registered, and have irate owners and even fellow breeders don't have a good word to say about this previously reputable kennel.

Hubby is very calm with this sort of thing, I am not. I have a most unproductive habit of going in with all guns blazing so shall be staying in the truck.
 
I'll bet they have run into financial trouble and have taken your money without giving you the goods. Is there an OFT or similar over here that you can take your grievances to?
 
That is the number that is now out of service, I tracked down the current one through a 2 year old obituary column of all places! Google is wonderful!
