Breeders/buyers? questions lol

Lily was 8 weeks old, vet checked, wormed and 1st vacc done.
Thea was just short of 8 weeks, collected slightly early but she'd been checked, wormed and chipped, we then had her 1st vacc done asap. The breeder doesn't let them go until 7 1/2weeks and does vacc if they're there over 8.

We found loads of benefits to getting a pup at 11/12 weeks - he had had excellent socialisation and being on a busy family farm had seen all sorts of things going on (the week after we got him we had the farrier out for my pony - he sat on the floor next to the farrier working and went to sleep - turned out he'd seen that all before!).

He never, ever mouthed us - not even once - despite being a 'chewy' pup. He would stop himself (he still does), it was clearly something he'd been taught, probably by the older dogs. He was great with dogs (isn't anymore - thanks to being attacked at 6 months ;( ), good, with our cats and fab with kids.

He was also really quick to housetrain - it took a few days. He was also fully vaccinated and clear to go our for walkies on the day we brought him home - none of this carrying him round stuff, which was good IMO

He goes back to his breeder for holidays and fits straight back in with the pack.

If I ever got another pup, I would want it to be a similar age - but I also wouldn't get a pup from anyone other than Stan's breeder because his early weeks before we got him were clearly very well spent

I think thats great but quite a rare circumstance, my puppies now at 7 1/2 weeks know all I can teach them here as a litter, they are bold, toilet trained, know what 'NO' means, can sit and come to call, they are confident outside, with household noises, traffic, people, children, car journeys, other dogs....with all of them here I can teach them nothing more than I already have and to hold them here for a further 2 weeks or more in my view would do them no good whatsoever, they need to go see the world with their new owners now. And thats my sensible head speaking...at the moment I am dreading them going so its not like I have personally had enough of them!

i got mine at 5 weeks and 5 days

i know....very young

but her mum was battering her (another reject)!

so she got fed puppy milk and slept on my bed from day 1.... shes like my shadow now!

Again, not getting at you noodle, but just cos her mum was rejecting her at 5 weeks 5 days there really was no need for her to go to a new home so young. Why could the breeder not just keep them separate, which is what most breeders would be doing for most of the time at that age anyway, so pups learn to manage without mum. Great that your girl went to you and has a lovely home, but imo not a reason for this to happen.

Wow, thankyou very much, not sure why I second guessed myself in a debate but I did and should not have, I wrote a puppy buying guide for a (well not exactly a forum) but somewhere that allows the selling of puppies in an alarming back street manor.
I did state in my opinion pups should not go earlier than 8 weeks give a day or 2 and should be 1st vaxed, and if they are older when sold anything over 12 weeks they should be fully vaxed as socialisation should have started (therefor vaxes needed) the argument was (the different vax manifacturers) but indeed as suggested surely that's as easy as advising people of this and to allow their vet to order them in or phone a few vets to ask if they use those specific vaxes.

I was going by what we would do as a rescue and what I thought was the norm with responsible breeders.
Anyway my guide was accepted but I had to change to 7 weeks (something to do with the "fear stage", I guess this is better than causing an argument considering the selling going on. (small price to pay) to get a little education across and bring the persils of people buying from back street breeders to a reduction.

Anyhows, my guide was magnificent, (would have had a few people breathing fire) esp when I began my education on the purchasing of designer X breeds I am wondering if dumb tree and Never pre Loved would accept it and put it on every single puppy ad

Cayla the only thing I prefer to get done myself are the vaccinations instead of taking the breeders word for it at 8 weeks. An incident relating to parvo reconfirmed how SOME breeders claimed the have done these and fake the record cards. Back to the incident a woman in our street bought a doberman. She was told the puppy had had his injections she had no reason to doubt this, but he developed parvo and within a week he died at the vets.

Some of the other puppies from the same litter also died.

I know dobermans are more susceptible to parvo and you have to be very careful that they have had their injections but I would hate for anyone to have to cope with this disease which kills so quickly.

I see your point, I wonder if the breeder did all the other responsible preperations before selling the pups? or was there any other tell tale signs they where dodgy?
I did put in the guide that proof of vaccination should be given and if in doubt contact the vet practice printed on the card and double check with the permission of the breeder.
Because i am well aware puppy farmers do the old vaccine dodging and falsifying

Tobehonest I can't remember the fine details it was about 10years ago.

The labs and basenjis go at 8 weeks and we dont vaccinate those unless we are hanging onto any for longer due to holidays and stuff. We tend to vaccinate at 9 & 11 weeks so if they are here then, they get vaccinated.

Pugs usually go at 9-10 weeks so will have their first vacc.

Chi's go no earlier than 12 weeks and are fully vaccinated before they leave.

We microchip every pup we sell before it leaves us

We've bought various at different stages. - all GSDs
Spey (12 years old now) - 5 weeks old and no vaccinations or anything.
Sam (4yrs old now) - *think* he was 8 weeks old, again no vaccinations.

Spey has never had vaccinations or anything.
Sam I started on vaccinations last year.

I got a JRT thats 9 weeks on Saturday. We picked him up on Monday and he's not been vaccinated but he's going tomorrow.

We picked the whipster up the day she reached 8 weeks. She was chipped, but I did the vaccinations ( straight away with first one).

Viz ( sorry, didn't note whole forum name and now can't see it to check), am so impressed the litter was all house trained! What a treat for their new owners!

MM, I can see the problem socialising 2 pups together. We had Irish Setters years ago and the thought of carrying 2, large breed pups about to see the world, gives me a sore back at the thought!

The Inuit was just over 7 weeks. Chipped but not vaccinated. Was done at out vets at 8 & 10 weeks. Never had any issues with biting
